JOB OVERVIEW

The Aerospace Welder position reports to the Repair Shop Supervisor and is responsible for performing complex welding repairs to aerospace components to meet very exacting and specific aviation standards. The Aerospace Welder will also perform general fabrication welding, resistance welding, heat treating, and other related work assignments.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Welds different alloy metal components together with GTAW (TIG) process equipment to repair OEM Aircraft components, which requires very close tolerances
  • Lays out metal stock or workpieces to indicate location, dimensions, and tolerances necessary for further processing
  • Reads and applies blueprints, sketches, models, or other written specifications to identify and mark component reference points and compute layout dimensions to build, and check custom work pieces and assemblies
  • Sets indicators on height gauge, protractor, and layout machines to computed dimensions, or projects dimensions by setting indicators to specified locations on model and moving instrument or machine so that indicators bear on corresponding locations and workpiece
  • Uses measuring instruments such as gauge blocks, height gauges, dial indicators and non-contact dimensional scanning technology to examine workpieces to verify such requirements as dimensions, proper angles, and specifications
  • Operates machines such as arbor presses, GTAW processes and spot-welding machines, to assemble work pieces and subcomponents and performs related tasks such as cutting and grinding
  • Observing, recording, and identifying any issue that is undermining the ability to achieve the targets, goals, and objectives
  • Ensure that handling practices are followed to minimize any damage to parts
  • Safe operation of the welding equipment, tolling, supplies, fixtures, and other machinery
  • All other duties as assigned by Lead

REQUIREMENTS

  • Red Seal Welder (minimum requirement)
  • Multi-purpose welding
  • Experience in Aviation Welding or CCAA certification would be an asset
  • Ability to achieve inspector status on welding performed
  • Experience with gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) (TIG) would be an asset
  • Ability to hold tight/close tolerances in respect to measuring tools
  • Experience in reading manuals and specifications
  • Proficiency with resistance welding and heat treating
  • Experience Working with aluminum, titanium, and stainless steel
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work well with others
  • Ability to research information
