Welding Supervisor – 2-3 needed 1st & 2nd shift

90+ day temp to perm

$28 – $33 per hour

Candidate must test & pass both FCAW SMAW WP46-Flux & WP02 –Stick

Responsibilities

· Provides and maintains adequate instructions such as turnover reports, availability of WPSs and Technique Sheets to shop personnel and field crews, and safety/security

· Supervisors job performance of shift or field welders; coordinates with Resource Managers and other supervisor to assign welding tasks based on welder skills to optimize productivity ; reports production accomplishments , level of quality and readiness of welds, back gouges, weld repairs, for QA inspection at turnover

· Identifies the training and qualifications required to achieve the best mix of capabilities of supervised welders; coordinates training and testing with Weld Resource Manager

· Trains personnel on welding safety requirements; maintains a safe work environment and enforces safe work and environmental compliance practices on the job

· Ensures quality of welds meet Code requirements as defined in job drawings, specifications, and procedures

· Produces or ensures production of welding-related documentation, such as welder signature on welds or welder identification on weld maps, as defined in job drawings, specifications, and procedures

· Ensures the correct application of welding procedures, materials , personnel and equipment as defined in job drawings, specifications, and procedures

· Controls welders, including subcontracted labor or services, to support schedule with optimum efficiency

· Ensures weld machines (including cabling, power sources/hookups, weld torches, etc) used for the job are adequately maintained and calibrated, properly installed, and properly laid out for safety and for highest productivity

· Enforces compliance with consumable storage and issue /contro l/traceability requirements as defined in job drawings, specifications, and procedures

· Ensures safety equipment (PPE, harnesses, scaffolding, ) is sufficient, adequate , and maintained for the job and that all workers and site visitors are using required PPE and safety equipment

· Controls correct application of weld procedures, for example, by assuring welders know and apply proper joint fit-up and cleanliness , pre-heat , weld sequence , heat input , interbead cleaning, cleaning and contouring for subsequent NDE, and so on.

· Supervises welding procedure testing and welder qualification practice and testing as directed

· Ensures that parent materials and weld consumables meet specifications as defined in job drawings, specifications, and procedures

· Performs quality checks of pre-fabricated parts or sub-assemblies (dimensions, joint preparations) so it meets specifications as defined in job drawings, specifications , and procedures

· Ensures that all welding accomplished under his supervision meets specified requirements and workmanship standards BEFORE QA inspection is initiated by ensuring welders inspect and sign their welds and by conducting “Tier 1” oversight inspections prior to end of shift

· Ensures all welding inspection (e.g. NDT) tasks are performed on completed welds or weld repairs and ensures no further work is allowed on finished (accepted)

· Directs simple base metal and weld repairs as indicated by QA; requests written process instruction for complicated, technically risky, or multi-shift repairs

· Records documentation such as weld map entries, process sheet entries, Inspection Log entries, and so on as defined in job drawings, specifications, and procedures

· Complete standard dimensional computations/ Devise bracing and weld sequencing steps to maintain tolerances and minimizing distortions

· Whenever possible and as directed, produces FCAW and SMAW welds (2nd Class or better)

o Prepare time or job cards, reports, or records

o Other duties as assigned

o Must have regular, reliable attendance

Qualifications/Requirements

AWS Certified Weld Supervisor or Senior Weld Supervisor OR Meets criteria of a 2nd Class Welder preferred; 3rd Class welder minimum with supervisory experience and the following:

· Comprehensive, broad knowledge of welding techniques, tools, machines and equipment

· Expert knowledge of and ability to use hand tools and instruments associated with the trade

· Must be able to work effectively with others; training and supervisory experience preferred

· Proficient reading all types of blueprints and weld symbols, drawing dimensions/ tolerances, complex shapes and weld joints; build plans, sequencing , welding tools, jigs & fixtures,

platforms/staging and work instructions to control distortion, reduce welder fatigue and improve quality-adjusted productivity

· Enter and move through manholes, climb ladders , or both to reach and work inside confined spaces

· Hands on experience with heavy metal/steel welding procedures in all positions

· Basic mechanical knowledge and skills

· Able to comprehend and follow instructions and give instructions

· Experienced with performing visual inspections of welds and fit-ups or AWS CWI/ASNT Level I VT certified (preferred)

· Familiar with different forms of weld NDT and how specified NDT impacts selection and execution of weld processes

· Must pass J-1 vision test and respirator fit test

Weld Supervisor must qualify and maintain certifications as follows:

· Safe handling, use, and storage of gasses

· Safe work practices

· Safety harness

· Safe welding practices (29 CFR 1915)

· Hot work and Firewatch

· Structural (AWS or ABS/MIL) and at least one Pipe welding WPQs

· SMAW and FCAW in Mild steel, High Strength CS (EH 36), or HY/HSLA 80 or l 00

· SAW or GMAW in Steel

· Any process, including weld overlay cladding, in stainless steel or nickel-based alloys and either aluminum alloys, copper-based alloys, or titanium alloys

· Welder Workmanship Training

· Consistently produce craftsman like amount of

· Groove welds exhibiting no more than 5% volumetric defects and no more than 2.5% surface defects requiring rework

· ¼-inch single-pass fillets and multipass fillets in aIJ positions exhibiting no more than 5% surface defects requiring rework

· 5/16-inch single-pass fillets in F, H, and V positions exhibiting no more than 2.5% surface defects requiring rework

· Air-arc and plasma arc backgouges, cutting , and weld preparation of steel

· Welds (structural and pipe) and weld repairs in confined or restricted-access work spaces

· Devise, cut and install strong-backs or bracing, stagger welds, or both sufficient to control weld distortion independently
