This is skilled shop and field work at the journeyman level in performing skilled shop and field welding, fitting, and fabricating duties in building, repairing, and maintaining a variety of machinery, vehicles, equipment, facilities, and parts; layout, forming, and pressure welding of water pipes, makes up and assembles water pipe offsets, tees, extensions, tie rods, nipples, and related items. An incumbent exercises considerable independent judgement and action in completing most assignments in accordance with established trade practices, and may supervise one or more helpers as required. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 supplemented by the completion of a recognized Trade Certificate of Qualification plus considerable general experience at the Journeyman level; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Thorough knowledge of the standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the welding and/or metal fabrication trade; of the hazards and proper safety precautions related to the work; of water main and related pipe installation, maintenance and repair operations. Ability to lay out work from blueprints, sketches, and diagrams and weld cast iron and steel water pipe under pressure; to perform skilled welding, fitting, forming, forging, brazing, heating, cutting, and fabrication duties under minimal supervision; to supervise the work of one or more helpers as required. Skill in the use and care of tools, equipment, and materials used in the trade. Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia along with Certificate of Qualification – Welder and Certificate of Qualification – Metal Fabricator (Fitter) and Welder B (some positions) are required.

This position is temporary full time until November 30, 2021.
