Responsibilities may include:
- Setup and operate CNC horizontal machining centre and CNC lathe
- Machine individual steel weldments, castings or forgings to tight tolerances
- Load part onto machines using overhead crane, choosing appropriate lifting tackle
- Set up, align and secure work-holding fixtures, jaws, and cutting tools
- Monitor the condition of the cutting tools and machine during the machining process
- Interrupt CNC program to measure parts and ensure first off is in tolerance
- Edit CNC program on the go to repair and re-work non-conforming parts
- Accurately inspect finished parts using measuring tools such as micrometers, Vernier calipers, bore gauges, snap gauges, Go No-Go thread gauges
- Read and interpret engineering drawings
- Maintain machine tools in proper operational condition, by completing daily preventative maintenance and 5S
- Train, help and problem solve for operators
- Re-work parts that don’t meet specification
- Put forth, test and implement process improvements for programs, tooling, feeds and speeds
- Lean initiatives
Skills and Experience:
- 5 years of CNC machinist experience
- Strong ability to lead a team
- Self starter
- Knowledge of Mazak and Mazatrol an asset
- Ability to complete set-up and programming
- Good working knowledge of cutting tools, engineering drawings, and metrology
- Ability to calculate and set feeds and speeds
- Strong work ethic; punctual and reliable
- Physically able to perform task demands
- Good level of manual dexterity and hand / eye coordination
- Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve effectively and efficiently
- Knowledge of production processes and quality standards
- Positive attitude through effective and friendly communication
