Reporting to: Operations Manager

United Engineering Ltd., a Ralmax Group of Companies, has an exciting and immediate opening for a full-time Fabricator in Victoria, BC. Fabricators play a key role receiving and interpreting written and verbal instructions to understand project requirements and determine processes required to achieve the customer’s requirements. Fabricators at United Engineering Ltd. will be offered the opportunity to be involved on a wide variety of projects, ranging from production manufacturing of structural projects, stainless steel and aluminum alloys, pressure equipment and industrial equipment troubleshooting, maintenance and repairs.

Responsibilities:

  • Receive verbal and written direction from Shop Chargehand & Project Manager(s) as required to gain understanding of project requirements.
  • Read and interpret technical documentation, i.e. fabrication drawings, weld procedures, inspection and test plans etc.
  • Perform all workpiece processing and assembly tasks including, layout, marking, cutting, drilling, forming, welding, sequencing and assembly.
  • Operation of industrial equipment such as overhead cranes, bandsaw, grinder (portable & stationary), forklift, ironworker, press brake, forming rolls, plate shear.
  • Cooperate and communicate with team members for heavy lifts and transport, receiving and providing verbal and visual communication (hand signals).
  • Adhere to workplace safety policies, regulations, and compliance
  • Other duties within scope of the position, as assigned

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • Journeyman’s certificate, or have Red Seal considered an asset.
  • Competition of college/CEGEP/vocational or technical training considered an asset.
  • Must be competent in using industrial equipment and following all safety precautions.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge and ability to read and understand fabrication drawings.
  • Ability to read weld symbols, determine assembly sequences, predict and control distortion in order to produce a high quality product.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to organize materials and coordinate activities to avoid bottlenecks in manufacturing process.

Requirements:

  • Must have a complete set of tools to perform their job duties, i.e., squares, punches, chalk lines & hammer etc.
  • C.W.B Welding Certification (current) in both FCAW & SMAW considered an asset.

Work Conditions

  • Physical ability to lift up at least 50lbs
  • Travel to off-site locations may be required
  • Safety equipment will be required, e.g., steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc.
  • Overtime as required
  • Hazards associated with the trade
  • Work both indoors and outdoors
