Founded in 1913, Olds College of Agriculture & Technology has been offering high quality hands-on education for over a century. Through our core programming including continuing education, online and blended programming, we provide accessible educational opportunities within Alberta and beyond. About the School of Trades & Skills

The School of Trades & Skills is dedicated to creating the next generation of skilled trades workers. Working closely with industry, the School provides learners with education in a variety of trades and apprenticeships using the newest equipment. The School is also home to the Olds College Brewery. Fields of study offered within the School of Trades & Skills include: Brewmaster and Brewery Operations, Hospitality and Tourism, Trades, Apprenticeships & Pre-Employment, Transitional Employment Program, and Farrier Science.

The Opportunity – Instructional Assistant, Welding (This role is a 0.85 FTE that could be recurring in nature (August – May) or part of a work averaging agreement)

Olds College is looking for a permanent Instructional Assistant for our Trades and Apprenticeship programs. This role is responsible for assisting instructors in the creation of the learning environment leading to student success. Preparing, distributing, and demonstrating equipment and material; assisting students; and performing additional tasks as required, are all regular parts of this positions day to day.

Key Job Functions:
Provide direct support to Instructors in the Trades and Apprenticeship programs.

Support the delivery of Instruction by:
Ordering, purchasing, inventory update of materials and supplies for assigned classes

Co-ordinate and/or carry out the collection, preparation of materials/ supplies required for instruction

Set up and take down labs

Prepare and maintain materials for student study purposes

Maintain required records

Provide in-class and lab assistance, not involving direct instruction

Assist in exam monitoring

Participate as a member of Instructional Support Teams and other College groups/ teams

Assist with College events, promotion / recruiting activities

Requirements:
Journeyperson Certification in Welding with a minimum of three (3) years of related experience as a Journeyperson. Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Self-motivated

Strong computer skills

Adept communication and problem-solving abilities

Strong organization skills

Ability to work on a team

Work independently with minimal supervision

Conditions of Employment:
May be required to do heavy lifting, repetitive physical work.

Must be able to drive heavy machinery in and out of lab.

Some work outside of regular College operating hours may be required.

A satisfactory current Criminal Reference check.

Must respect and actively promote health and safety policies.
