Reports to Shift Supervisor and Production Coordinator

Skills – 3+ years journeyman welder/Wire Process Operator

North American Storage may consider apprentice welders for the right candidates.

  • Certified journeyman or apprentice Wire Process Operator welder (Alberta or Interprovincial)
  • Mechanical knowledge of machines, tools including their designs, uses, benefits, repair and maintenance
  • Experience with Welding components in flat, vertical or overhead positions
  • Knowledge of design techniques, principles, tools and instruments involved in the production and use of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings and models
  • Knowledge of production inputs, outputs, raw materials, waste, quality control, costs, and techniques for maximizing the manufacture of goods
  • Ability to select the most appropriate welding process and materials depending on factors such as the type, size shape, and strength of metal parts
  • Good manual dexterity. Ability to quickly make coordinated movements of one hand, a hand together with its arm, or two hands to grasp, manipulate or assemble objects
  • Good vision, well coordinated, can stand for long periods of time and work in awkward positions
  • Capable of lifting/carrying 22 kg (50 lbs), occassionally 45 kg (100 lbs)

Responsibilities – Material handling

  • Layout positions and secures parts and assembles according to specifications, using straightedge, combination square, calipers and ruler
  • Analyzes engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations
  • Determines required equipment and welding method, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques
  • Develop templates and other work aids to hold and align parts
  • Ignite torches and adjust valves, amperage, or voltage to obtain desired flame or arc
  • Tack-weld or welds components and assemblies using electric, gas, arc, or other welding equipment
  • Heats forms, and dresses metal parts using hand tools, torch or arc welding equipment
  • Cuts work piece using powered saws, hand shears, or chipping knife
  • Remove rough spots from workpieces using portable grinder, hand file or scraper
  • Inspect grooves, angles, or gap allowances using micrometer, caliper and precision measuring instruments
  • Observes tests on welded surfaces such as hydrostatic, x-ray, and dimension tolerances to evaluate weld quality
  • Work from schedule or production list, follow priorities set by supervisors and sequences tasks within that framework
  • Help maintain a neat, organized workplace
  • Follow all safety rules, regulations and company rules, policies, practices, procedures.

Shifts are:

3 – Day Shift – Monday to Thursday 6:30 am – 5:00 pm with over time offered on Fridays.

9 – Night Shift – Monday – Thursday 5:30 pm – 4:00 am with over time offered on Fridays.

Wages depend on qualifications and experience.

Night shift differential paid to all night shift employees.

Salary: $21.00-$30.00 per hour
