A&H Vancouver, together with its ownership partners, provide a unique and disruptive solution to the endemic problem facing British Columbia’s construction industry with respect to the timely completion of the concrete formwork phase of large-scale construction projects.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Journeyman Ironworker is required to provide guidance and mentorship to apprentice ironworker staff in the areas of safety, quality control, and policies and procedures. It is a requirement of this position to become a member of the Ironworkers Local 97 union.
Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
- Train, coach, mentor and provide performance feedback to Ironworker Apprentices.
- Responsible for helping Lead hands, and foremen, ensuring highest level of quality is maintained for each project and completed in accordance with industry standards.
- Responsible for increasing overall placing crew efficiency.
- Responsible to implement, as directed by the site foreman, or lead hand, industry practices and procedures that impact A&H’s field placing department.
- Ensure all field placing crew adhere to A&H’s Health, Safety and Environment practices and procedures.
- Responsible to uphold company and placing crew’s standards for cleanliness, workmanship and specifications to ensure they meet legislative and safety code requirements.
- Responsible for the safety, training, and mentorship of apprentices on the placing crew.
- Assist in the development and suggest improvements to practices and procedures to maintain A&H standards for efficient project completions, and a high quality finished product
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Construction industry.
- Comprehensive knowledge of OH&S practices, and procedures.
- Comprehensive knowledge of operating practices and procedures in construction site environment.
- Effective troubleshooting/problem solving skills.
- The incumbent must have a valid operator’s license.
- The ability to interpret blueprints,
- Current WHMIS, JLG, Fall Arrest and Confined Space certification is required, or ability to obtain certification (training can be provided)
- An understanding of safe work practices and the knowledge to safely operate the tools of the trade,
- The ability to work at heights,
- Forklift experience is considered an asset,
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team,
- Position will require exposure to heat, cold, wet and/or humid conditions, vibration and industrial
manufacturing noise,
- Physically fit to perform job tasks and to lift up to 50 pounds, and to stand 8 hours,
- Must be available to work full-time (Monday – Friday).
Compensation and Benefits
Compensation and Benefits are as per the Ironworkers Local 97 collective agreement. Current commercial/institutional rate for a Journeyman is 36.58/hr plus Vacation, Health and Wellness, Pension premiums.
