Overview

Purpose of Position: This role is primarily responsible for the day-to-day functioning of the department, working closely with the other Lead Hands &/or Supervisors for the efficient co-ordination and flow of product, achievement of qualityAND delivery of the right quantity on time. Seeks authorization of management of the area and keeps management informed of any concerns on quality or any other issues that may affect labour efficiency and utilization.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Manufacturing

  • Takes direction from Supervisor to coordinate workflow targets and implement corrective action to prevent schedule deviation in order to meet due dates within acceptable quality guidelines.
  • Complies with all new methods, systems, policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective operation of department production activities.
  • Performs setup, start up, handover and shutdown preparation for the area. Ensures that the required quantity is produced before the job is changed over.
  • Receives and releases quality product to/from the department. Participates in identification of product acceptable for release to customers.
  • Required to verify each operator’s first off and work order sign off.
  • Ensure that returned parts are identified and returned to the designated area for restocking.
  • Ensure that operators have parts at ALL times achieving a constant workflow.
  • Allocate workers to jobs and monitor their output to achieve production quotas as outlined on work orders and defined by Active Engineering Standards.
  • Collect all work orders from operators immediately the job is complete. Ensure that all work orders have been signed and provide properly completed work orders to the Supervisor together with the completed set-up documentation where applicable.

Health & Safety

  • Enforce and actively promote safe work and good housekeeping practices within the current Ontario Safety legislation and the Active Safety program by employing daily job observation.
  • Adheres to safety practices and lockout applications. Participates in all 5S activities.

Training & Supplies

  • Ensures proper training and instruction of employees with respect to expected standards of work performance, quality and job safety.
  • Advises on and applies technical knowledge / training to the operator. Ensures required supplies for the operation are on hand. Troubleshoots processes and equipment. Ensures that new/untrained operators are not assigned work for which they have not been adequately trained.

Rework

  • Immediately perform rework on parts requiring rework and advise Supervisor of any and all rework. Ensure that all pertinent data relative to rework is documented i.e. quantity. Reason for rework, operator responsible etc.

General

  • Ensures that established standards for labour efficiency and utilization, material utilization and product quality are met within the department. Participates in new product launch.
  • Completes and ensures that all necessary reports and written documentation comply with Active Exhaust Policies and Procedures.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement of department (plant operations). Encourages the participation of the department personnel in attaining Cost Reduction Goals.
  • Ensures fair treatment of all employees consistent with the Employment Standards Act, the Human Rights Code and Active employee relations policies.
  • Immediately advise Supervisor of any circumstances that affect production, quality or safety.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
