We are seeking a Full Time Mechanical Assembler/Fitter to join our growing team.
Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Mechanical Assembler/Fitter is responsible for the assembling, debugging, modifying and installing machinery accordingly to the mechanical design. This position is also responsible for, start-up and commissioning of machine lines and systems.
Job Duties:
· Assemble, debug, modify and install custom designed machinery according to the schedule, Calmec quality standards and to meet or exceed customer expectations
· Responsible for the integration of purchased mechanical and pneumatic components, manufactured details and sub-assemblies to construct automated machinery for custom applications
· Perform critical precision alignments and set-ups of mechanical components and systems and take measures to ensure integrity of set-up
· Responsible for installing pneumatic components and sub-systems as per supplied schematics and specifications, plumbing.
· Perform machining tasks when required (grinding, milling, lathe etc.)
· Responsible for testing, pre-commissioning and optimizing system performance and equipment durability concerns, adhering to all applicable codes and standards.
· Identify any technical issues with supplied materials, components and equipment
· Participate in equipment tear down, packaging, rigging and transporting and installation as required
· Responsible for identifying and correcting mechanical deficiencies in the build (regardless of source), and accurately documenting as built changes so engineering drawings can be updated
· Responsible for performing all start-up and commissioning procedures at customer sites.
· When working on the customers site you are responsible to ensure customer is kept informed of your progress.
· Responsible to work with engineering, electrical, and controls departments to see jobs through to completion
· Responsible to take ownership of assigned tasks and collaborate with required personnel to troubleshoot, resolve issues, and provide technical information.
· Responsible for organizing materials, workspace and work sequence in the most efficient manner for machine builds.
· Must identify all tools, fasteners, miscellaneous items and equipment required to complete tasks efficiently and work with plant manager to secure all required material in a timely manner.
· Perform plant related maintenance and maintenance on plant equipment as required.
· Maintain a clean, safe and orderly work area
Requirements
· Minimum Ten(10) years’ experience in custom machine building field (preferably wire & cable industry), experience in high speed manufacturing environment is an asset
· Demonstrated experience in building equipment utilizing the following technologies: robotic systems, high speed index transfer (dial, indexing chain, walking beam etc..), pneumatic actuators, servo motors and actuators
· Familiarity with wire & cable manufacturing environments and concepts of lean manufacturing
· Familiarity with modern electrical controls technologies as they apply to automated equipment (e.g. PLC’s, HMI’s, safety devices, and instrumentation)
· Licensed Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) in the province of Ontario or Certified Tool and Die Maker or Certified Engineering Technician/Technologist is preferred or equivalent is an asset.(to be verified)
· Completion of college or vocational/technical training an asset
· Must have own tools
· Read and interpret Autocad (2D) and Solidworks (3D) drawings and understand tolerances & critical dimensions.
· Perform dimensional & quality inspections using measuring devices (micrometers, Vernier’s, measuring tapes, etc.).
· Strong working knowledge of machine shop practices
· Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of mechanical fundamentals as they apply to machinery and equipment
· Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills
· Ability to use the following machine shop equipment safely and efficiently to complete tasks;
· milling machine, lathe, surface grinder etc. (CNC milling, sink or wire EDM experience would be an asset)
· Ability to weld common metals (MIG/TIG) encountered in machine building is an asset
· Understanding of basic machinery rigging principles and the ability to operate rigging equipment including, cranes and forklifts etc.
· Good working knowledge of Machinery Safeguarding Principles and Standards as it applies to production
· Ability to identify shortcomings or deficiencies and correct
· Good working knowledge of pneumatic/hydraulic control circuits
· Good working knowledge of bearing installation and press fits.
· Ability to work on multiple projects at the same time while maintaining focus
· Ability to work overtime as required and travel worldwide on short notice (valid and current Canadian passport is required) is a must
· Experience with machine start-up and commissioning activities.
· Valid Ontario Driver’s license and access to insured vehicle for travel within G.T.A. and surrounding areas is a must
· Excellent oral and written communication skills
· Ability to work both cohesively with all team members or to work independently on assigned tasks.
· Proven ability to perform under strict time constraints and flexibility and adaptability to work long hours or alternate shifts when project schedules dictate
· Excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and disciplined approach to work.
· Excellent Safety Awareness and good working knowledge of Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) practices.
· Working knowledge of manufacturing software.
Working Conditions
Located mainly in an indoor manufacturing environment in varying temperatures, may be required to perform work outdoors.
Occasional moderate to heavy manual lifting.
Regularly works near active production machinery, in conditions that include moving parts, heat, humidity, and exposure to dust. Exposure to varying levels of noise as produced by machinery and related activities.
Standing for extended periods of time, walking, crouching.
