JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is seeking a results driven Engineer to join our Machine Dynamics & Component Integrity team in the role of Metallurgical and Welding Engineer based in our Toronto, ON location.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in an environment where you will contribute to Ontario Power Generation’s continued growth and success in generating safe, clean, reliable low-cost power in a sustainable manner.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Provide welding and metallurgy support to OPG’s thermal generating stations (fired power boilers, high energy piping, pressure vessels).

Provide welding and metallurgy support to OPG’s hydro generating stations and projects (castings repairs, casting specifications, hard facing, vendor QA/QC).

NDE interpretation and disposition of inspection reports including classification of creep damage from metallurgical replications.

Provide advice and stay apprised of welding and pressure boundary applicable codes (ASME Sec I, V, VIII, IX, B31.1, B31.3, NBIC NB-23, CSA B51, O.Reg 220-01, and TSSA Code Adoption Document).

Provide advice and stay apprised of structural welding codes and standards (CSA W47.1, W59, S16.1).

Familiar with the Ontario and National building codes and O.Reg 503/09.

Prepare and manage WPS and PQR and welding governance (review contractor WPS).

Prepare specialised repair procedures including post weld heat treatment instructions.

Perform metallurgical failure analysis of ex service components to support failure root cause investigations

Support stations with TSSA QA/QC welding manuals, TSSA audits, and CWB Welding Engineer audits.

Prepare and facilitate welding, metallurgy and PWHT workshops.

EDUCATION

4 year university degree in Mechanical or Metallurical Engineering

Licensed Professional Engineer (P. Eng) designation in good standing with Professional Engineers Ontario (or equivalent) is required

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum of 10 years of welding and metallurgy experience.

Concentrated study in welding and metallurgy.

CWB Welding Engineer or equivalent knowledge or experience is preferred.

Significant experience with weld repairs of large fired boilers, pressure vessels, heat exchanges, high energy piping, and structural steel components in power generation applications.

Experience with power boiler and high temperature component failure mechanisms. Familiar with EPRI reports and guidelines for managing power boiler and HEP failure mechanisms or an equivalent peer led organization for establishing industry best practices.

Demonstrated effective interfacing and collaboration with key stakeholders.

Demonstrated effective ability to manage multiple priorities and to influence others.

Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.

Demonstrated knowledge of the OH&S Act and Regulations, specifically for Industrial Establishments.

Results oriented with high integrity.

Valid Class G Ontario driving license (or equivalent) in good standing.
