Halifax Steel Framing Solutions (HFX Steel) is a family-owned light gauge steel stud fabricator located in
Dartmouth NS. Undertaking the production and assembly of buildings such as multistory buildings, residential homes, cottages, and garages etc in Halifax and Atlantic Canada in particular. Our operations are growing rapidly, and we are looking to grow our team to match.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct and control daily fabrication activities
  • Develop quality control measures to ensure on time error-free delivery.
  • Drive continuous improvement of safety, quality, delivery, and cost in area of responsibility.
  • Work with Planning to evaluate customer orders and available labor and materials to develop a production plan to meet on-time delivery objectives. Manufacture to that plan and communicate the plant’s progress toward that plan.
  • Supervise and train personnel in assigned area; directly manage team members, including assigning and reviewing work, evaluating performance.
  • Serve as a role model in areas such as professionalism, service orientation, agent of change, education, and commitment to organizational goals and objectives.

  • Problem Solving. Ability to use logical and reasonable thinking to evaluate problems, identify the root causes, determine, and initiate corrective action plans to resolve and eliminate the problems.
  • Leadership Skills. Manage a team or teams of fabricators. Ability to coach and motivate team members in planning, strategic product management, decision-making, teamwork, and process improvement.
  • Time management. Ability to effectively manage team projects to completion according to schedule.

Ability to provide regular performance feedback and to write annual performance reviews.

  • Communication Skills. Effective communicator with skills that demonstrate collaboration and cooperation.

  • Budget Development. Ability to develop a manufacturing and capital expenditure budget, execute and manage the budget as planned.

  • Computer/Applications Skills. Proficient MS Office computer skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint. Knowledge of enterprise resource planning for manufacturing software is an asset.
  • Analytical Skills. Ability to use information/data and various metrics to make decisions and improvements.

Education/Experience

  • Minimum of 5 experience in light gauge steel construction residential or commercial
  • Minimum of 5 experience in manufacturing operations in a fabricating business; or equivalent.

Physical/Sensory Requirements:

  • Must be able to sit & stand for long periods-of-time,
  • lift up to 100 pounds occasionally

Working Environment
While performing the essential responsibilities of this position, team member works within an office and the manufacturing / fabrication environment. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required within the manufacturing / fabrication environment and team members must be able to wear protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and a respirator as needed. While in the manufacturing environment team member is regularly exposed to noise, heat and cold environmental conditions.

Salary: $60,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
