Title: Site Welder

Accountability*: Welding Supervisor and/or assigned Project Superintendents

*
Primary Duty: *To lead and oversee the welding function on site and ensure that all necessary protocols and processes are in place and adhered to.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Welding Supervisor (when in the shop) or the assigned Mechanical Superintendent (when on site), the Site Welder is responsible to ensure that the PMP welding function on site is meeting the highest standards of quality and that all apprentices that are trained to the highest standards.
Specifically, the Site Welder will:

  • Lead by example; work alongside the welding team.
  • Perform the duties of a Journeyman welder including:
  • Read and interpret blueprints or welding process specifications.

  • Lays out, positions, and secures parts and assemblies according to specifications, using straightedge, combination square, callipers, and ruler.
  • Tack – welds or welds components and assemblies, using electric, gas, arc, or other welding equipment.
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment.
  • Train, coach and correct welding apprentices.
  • Answer general site questions.
  • Solve problems to keep production flowing on site
  • Act as an interface between apprentices and the Welding Supervisor/Mechanical Superintendent
  • Enforce the project-specific health and safety policy.
  • Enforce the project-specific QA/QC program.
  • Develops a strong understanding of each project.
  • Work with order/fabrication tracking software and automated tooling as required
  • Participate in a LEAN construction/manufacturing culture as required
  • Performs other duties as required.

Education and Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years in the welding industry.
  • Red seal certification as a welder is required
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with personnel of other departments.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in writing and orally.
  • Ability to use Bluebeam, AutoDesk products and/or NavisWorks would be an asset.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office products.

Final Note

  • Available shifts include:
  • Standard 5 x 8hr work week
  • Compressed 3 x 12hr work week **local housing may be available for non-local candidates**
