We are looking for junior to senior level, structural steel/welding inspectors to provide field and shop inspection services on construction sites for urban land development, municipal infrastructure, and building construction projects.
The ideal candidate will have experience in the Industrial/Commercial/Institutional construction sectors; should have excellent communication skills, maintain current certification with the Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) W178.2 and must be able to work independently, as well as part of a team.
Responsibilities
Structural Steel Welding Inspectors will be responsible for supporting all aspects of quality control under the supervision of project managers, supervisors or scheduling coordinators.
- Conduct shop inspections to review fabrication of structural steel components.
- Conducting on-site inspection of structural steel framing and metal deck placement.
- Perform visual inspections of welding for conformance with relevant specifications.
- Review documents and specifications.
- Preparation of field reports documenting findings, inspection locations, and results.
- Report any non-conformance concerns while on site to management.
- Participate at site meetings.
- Liaison with clients and contractors.
Required Skills
Ø Canadian Welding Bureau Certification or Enrollment – CSA W178.2 (Level I, II or III).
Ø Knowledge of Canadian Standards Association (CSA) W47.1 and W59
Ø Ability to operate articulating lift equipment or the ability to obtain certification
Ø Ability to work comfortably and confidently at heights
Ø Proficient at report writing, reviewing, and interpretation of results
Ø Competency with MS Word, e-mail, and common smart phone applications
Ø Hold a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and access to a properly insured personal vehicle
Ø Ability to travel and work remotely as needed
Offers of employment for safety-sensitive positions involving fieldwork are contingent upon candidates being able to perform key physical tasks of the job as described in the job posting and interview. This may include the ability to work in a variety of environmental conditions, such as remote or isolated areas, working alone, working at heights and in inclement weather (within safe and reasonable limits). Training will be provided in on-site safety, testing procedures, and use of equipment. There will be some opportunities to work overtime, if desired.
