Overview

The Fabrication Specialist works closely with the Fabrication Manager and Fabrication Supervisors to support special projects, continuous improvement initiatives to reduce cost and increase throughput, recruiting, and training. Must be able to leverage knowledge of welding, fabrication processes, and organizational experience to solve complex problems related to the fabrication of piping and vessels including but not limited to customer specifications, tooling, consumables, assembly support, and NDE failures. Will aid in the creation of standard operating procedures and documentation of trade specific qualifications.

Principle Duties & Responsibilities

Conduct interviews and in-house weld testing for prospective welders

Work with leads and supervisors to successfully onboard and retain welding talent

Provide technical guidance and oversite to the tool room and tool room attendant(s)

Work one-on-one with pipe and vessel welders on welding techniques to improve the quality and productivity of welds

Lead 6S champion efforts across the department

Provide technical guidance to Assembly Supervisors related to fit up issues and repair plans

Coordinate and represent the company at High School Recruiting functions and events

Assist with creating EFX welder training and qualifications program

Influence quarterly and yearly review ratings and promotion recommendations for welders within the spooling and vessel teams

Assist in the creation of detailed work instructions and standardized fabrication operating procedures

Assist with developing EFX welding performance metrics for all phases of pipe and vessel fabrication

Identifying new tools, equipment, and methods to support continued success

Improvement of tracking, cost management, and waste reduction of fabrication processes

Job Specifications

Minimum of High School Diploma; 2-year degree or professional certificate preferred

Minimum 10-years’ experience as a pressure welder in the oil and gas industry

Thorough knowledge of fabrication trade tools, consumables, and working methods

Able to read isometric drawings

Able to read and interpret customer and code specifications

Experience with Continuous Improvement and Problem-Solving methodologies preferred

Familiar with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Visio, Word, and Excel)

Excellent organizational, time management and prioritization skills

Flexibility, with the ability to work well independently and as part of a team

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Technical training experience

Working Conditions

Fast-paced general office environment and manufacturing shop floor. Many tasks have high degrees of time sensitivity. Domestic and international travel is possible on occasion.
