As the COVID-19 pandemic evolves around the world and in our local community, Conestoga College continues to adjust plans based on the guidance provided by our local Public Health authority. Considering these unprecedented circumstances, final hiring decisions remain contingent upon confirmed enrolment numbers and the evolving work environment. The Technologist will be responsible to assist faculty by demonstrating practical skills based on the WET curriculum and complete remedial instruction for students requiring further assistance. This position also requires the setup, operation, and maintenance of the equipment in the welding and fabrication shop.
Although many of our employees are currently working remotely, this position is governed by the applicable legislation of the Province of Ontario. Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required.
Responsibilities:
The incumbent assists in maintaining the welding and fabrication shop facilities by completing equipment repairs onsite and coordinating any off-site arrangements
Evaluates the equipment and supplies in preparation for ordering
Prepares purchase requisitions according to college policies and procedures for equipment and instructional supplies
Evaluates and maintains of inventory for equipment and supplies
Provides guidance and direction to part-time employees and student workers about any equipment, based on the welding shop needs
Provides input on course content and delivery of programs regarding the equipment use, including the safe operation of the equipment
Supports the development of equipment safety and operation manuals and modules to support the academic activity
Qualifications:
Certificate of Apprenticeship in 456A Welder or 437A Metal Fabricator is required
Welding certifications in CWB, SMAW, GMAW various positions are required
Minimum of five years of practical welding and fabrication experience related to the responsibilities listed above.
Must be flexible and organized
Must possess good human relations skills, communication, and interpersonal skills
Strong leadership and problem-solving skills
Ability to explain ideas and concepts thoroughly
Must possess a high degree of independent judgement
Basic computer skills are required
