Key Accountabilities

Reporting to the Manager, Fleet Management Services this position is responsible for ensuring safe reliable repairs, welds and fabrication to equipment is performed as required in a timely manner. Manage and control shop inventory and housekeeping while placing emphasis on safety and quality, being able to follow instructions and work well with peers is a must.

  • Fabricates, repairs, conducts preventative maintenance and alters all types of construction machinery, sweepers, plows, graders, loaders, pick-ups, cars, specialized tools, and other items for special projects, using tin plate, steel gauged 24 to 1 inch and a half steel casts and small amounts of aluminum
  • Inspects assemblies and installations for conformance with specifications, using measuring instruments such as Vernier calipers and micrometers
  • Performs related duties such as setting-up shop machines, measuring and performing layouts of a variety of materials, gauges to be used, ordering sufficient quantities of stock, and cleaning tools and work benches

Qualifications

  • Must have a valid Ontario Certificate of Qualification as a Welder (456A License)
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a welding/fabrication position
  • Proficiency with SMAW (Stick) – All positions, GMAW (MIG) and GTAW (TIG) welding
  • Must have a valid “G” Ontario Driver’s license
  • Preference will be given to those with a current and valid DZ license
  • Successful candidate will be required to obtain a “D/A” AVOP within thirty (30) days of appointment to the position
  • Must be able to obtain and retain Transportation Security Clearance at the designated level for the position

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the characteristics of various metals and practices and procedures of welding, cutting and shaping metal
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment machinery and operating characteristics
  • Knowledge of the operating principles of the mechanical equipment and controls upon which preventative maintenance and repair tasks are performed
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of the layout of the airport
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to be able to discuss and explain requirements and the activities of others
  • Ability to detecting and adjust or repair operating faults and in selecting the appropriate course of action to accomplish tasks safely, quickly and economically
  • Ability to interpret instructions and solve technical problems
  • Ability to understand the wrong modification or weld could result in hazards to operators
  • Basic computer skills including the ability to use a tablet or laptop
