Who is Canadian Waterfront Services?
CWS is a fast-growing waterfront construction company based in Hillsdale, ON with much of our work being seen across the shores of Georgian Bay. We offer comprehensive waterfront construction services from floating dock systems, boathouses, steel shore work, and landscaping to full concept construction. We are certified installers for Almita Helical Screw Piles and the exclusive NyDock Floating Docks dealer for Georgian Bay and surrounding inland lakes. We pride ourselves on a team focused work environment, quality of work and strong client relationships.
Detail Overview of Responsibilities:
1. Positive Team Player

2. Efficiently Produce Work:
- Utilize plasma, gas or electric arc in welding metallic and composite materials together
- Heat and dissolve metal parts to obtain molten substance used in welding or extrusion
- Operate manual and semi-automatic welding equipment in vertical, horizontal, and overhead positions
- Use power saws, chipping knife and hand shears in cutting, bevelling, and contouring metal workpieces
- Repair structures by dismantling, reshaping, and reassembling metal components using cutting torches and hand tools
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of local and international steel working codes/legal requirements
- Monitor work equipment to ensure usage is within optimum temperature to avoid overheating or expansion
- Prepare metal surfaces by cleaning with chemical solutions and wire brushes to remove impurities such as scale, rust, grease, and moisture
- Design patterns and models for welding projects using specifications contained in shop drawings
- Direct electrodes on or across metal workpieces to melt, bend or straighten them
- Mount and secure workpieces for projects using cranes, hoists, clamps, cables or additional forms of rigging
- Conduct, monitor and create material estimates prior to and during jobs to determine on site material requirements
- Mix and apply protective or decorative coat on finished steel products
- Assist carpenters and construction crew with help performing on-site duties when required

Requirements:
- Operation of all traditional welding equipment in a safe and reliable manor
- Proficient in mig and stick welding procedures around waterfront environments
- Experience with mig aluminum welding
- Experience with forms of thermal lancing and cutting
- Proficient with setup and use of oxy-acetylene torches
- Experience working in and around a water/lake environment
- CWB certification preferred
- Capable of lifting up to 50lbs repeatedly
- Able to interpret construction drawings for onsite fabrication processes
- Boat license and knowledge of Georgian Bay an asset
- Capable of operating various heavy equipment an asset
Work Conditions
This position is required to work outdoors and, as such, may be exposed to various conditions including but not limited to rain, snow, extreme hot or cold temperatures, humidity, dust, and noise. Work will occur near heavy equipment and other vehicles on a regular basis. When indoors, the work is conducted on a heated concrete floor in a warehouse building.
Being a waterfront construction company also means that sometimes it will be necessary for the employee to work while submersed in the water in a variety of conditions including but not limited to waves, wind, deep water, and ice. Work may occur on steep embankments with difficult shoreline access, and we also operate from boat, barges, and other marine equipment.
Some of the time will be spent working inside a concrete-floor warehouse and driving for extended periods.
Although rare, it is possible that some projects may involve contact with chemicals or hazardous materials.
This position will be required to work evening or weekends to support jobs behind schedule.

Strength Guidelines:
- Employee will be required to assist with repetitive lifting of up to 50lbs for some projects.
Motion Parameters:
- Employee will be expected to climb stairs and ladders, lift above head, walk, and stand for extended periods of time, squat, and kneel, as part of this position.
Vision and Hearing Requirements:
- As a Welder/Fabricator Assistant, the employee is required to have the ability to use sharp hand and electric tools, take measurements, judge distances, and operate all equipment in a safe and controlled manner.
Psychological Demands:
- Employee may occasionally be expected to make quick decisions and problem solve issues related to general construction.
