Overview

The MIG welder’s responsibilities include interpreting blueprints, selecting appropriate tools and metals, measuring and assembling metal pieces, using cutting tools, determining gas ratios, drilling holes, and monitoring inventory.

Afternoon shift: 4 x 10 hour shifts, Monday to Thursday. Voluntary overtime only! A $3.00 per hour shift premium applies!

Job Description:
Gather required tools, equipment and materials in work area

Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers

Examine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications

Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as SMAW (shielded metal arc) and GMAW (gas metal arc) welding equipment

Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding

Select and install torches, torch tips, filler rods, and flux, according to welding chart specifications or types and thicknesses of metals

Connect and turn regulator valves to activate and adjust gas flow and pressure so that desired flames are obtained

Operate jib and overhead crane to move large/heavy parts

Weld materials to complete assembly, ensuring that all welds are complete and of good quality

Examine work pieces for defects and conformance with specifications

Skills and Experience:

  • Expertise in fabrication, fitting and welding
  • Read and interpret welding blueprints, drawings specifications, manuals and processes, operating policies, procedures, and instructions
  • Good level of manual dexterity and hand / eye coordination
  • Ability to bend, crouch, and kneel as well as the ability to reach below, at and above shoulder height to repair and fabricate
  • Effective problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound decisions
  • Knowledge of LEAN Manufacturing practices
  • Positive attitude demonstrated through effective and friendly communication
