Overview

The City of Dawson Creek invites applications for the position of Welder to join the dynamic and high capacity team in the Public Works Department. Under the general supervision of the Transportation Manager or designate, a Welder performs many tasks to assist the Public Works Department. These tasks include production welding, service and repair welding, prototype building, and fitter welding. A Welder’s responsibilities will include fuel-tank and card-lock repairs, the fabrication of custom prototypes from supplied drawings, fabrication of custom jigs and fixtures to produce production parts that meet customer specifications, as well as the fabrication of metal structures using jigs and fixtures in a high paced production environment.

The successful candidate must have:
Completed Grade 12, or have an equivalent combination of education and experience;

Five (5) years experience as a Welder;

Interprovincial Red Seal or CWB tickets;

Valid welding certification, Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), certified in all positions;

A valid Driver’s License (Class 3 an asset);

Ability to work independently in a busy environment;

Experience with routine maintenance operations;

Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing;

Able to work well under pressure;

Strong attention to detail;

Computer literate;

The physical agility and ability to complete duties requiring physical effort and to perform all duties in a safe manner while following established procedures; and

The ability to maintain harmonious relationships with all members of the public and other staff members.

Equipment experience considered an asset.
