Welder / Grinder

Position Requirements:
A Welder is responsible for completing welding tasks following the identified procedures in the routing books. This may include welding, grinding, sanding, cutting and cleaning of various parts to various locations on a vehicle or sub-welding parts for the main vehicle. Fixtures and templates may be used to locate the welds and parts to the vehicle or sub-welded parts. Some fixtures and parts are manually handled and some are lifted with the jib or overhead crane depending on the size, weight and/or location.

For positions involving a trunnion, the vehicle is adjustable in a rotational plane and there are adjustable lift platforms, which can be adjusted vertically and horizontally for the welders. For positions involving sub- welding parts, an adjustable lift table or fixed workstations may be used.

Typical welding postures may include squatting, kneeling, crouching, bending and reaching at various working heights. Tasks required on the interior of the vehicle will require working within a vertical space of 105 to 135 cm and may involve crawling, crouching, stooping, bending, kneeling and/or lying down to access some areas. Welders are required to climb on/off vehicles, which may include climbing through roof hatches, rear openings and/or the driver’s hatch for example. It is common for welders to complete many welds while working on the vehicle including sitting, standing, crouching, and/or kneeling for example.
