A leading chemical manufacturing company in Kempton Park has an excellent career opportunity for a suitably qualified boilermaker supervisor.

Purpose of the job

To enable the team of Welders and Boilermakers to deliver an effective and efficient service to the business safely. This includes the drive to develop world class standards and systems as well as adherence to all relevant legislation.

Experience

  • 8 to 10 years’ experience working as a boilermaker in a Chemical or similar manufacturing environment.
  • Practical experience in OHSACT (PER) and SANS 347 environment will be advantageous
  • Supervisory Training and Qualification will be an advantage
  • Experience in a welding environment will be advantageous
  • Must be able to read, understand and generate piping isometrics
  • Minimum 5 years people management experience in a Chemical or similar Manufacturing environment

Qualifications:

  • Matric/ Grade 12 (Essential)
  • Boiler making and/or welding red seal qualification (Essential)

Other requirements

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and own transport
  • Standby will be a requirement

Key performance area

Legal and other compliance

  • All legal requirements up to date
  • Produce a monthly report of inadequate/problematic/non-conforming works
  • To actively participate in MOC process
  • Suggestions for plant improvements documented correctly
  • Submit MOCs for all changes from standard operation

To manage boiler making and welding related maintenance projects

  • Complete all projects within scope and approved budget
  • Manage and complete maintenance projects from needs analysis phase to commissioning and training
  • Complete project scope, budget, and timelines
  • Where spares are required, ensure job-card is obtained for project
  • Give feedback on progress of project
  • Ensure training of plant and maintenance personnel
  • Ensure all relevant documentation etc. is filed/stored/updated correctly on completion of project

To manage electrical maintenance projects

  • Complete all projects within scope and approved budget
  • Manage and complete maintenance projects from needs analysis phase to commissioning and training
  • Complete project scope, budget, and timelines
  • Where spares are required, ensure job-card is obtained for project
  • Arrange spares through Material coordinator role representative siting reference job-card number
  • Give feedback on progress of project
  • Ensure training of plant and maintenance personnel
  • Ensure all relevant documentation etc. is filed/stored/updated correctly on completion of project

To perform maintenance work in accordance with specific trade

  • All job-cards returned before leaving the site
  • All job-cards returned with constructive feedback
  • Jobs only pre-planned for acceptable reasons (i.e. spares not available, plant not available)
  • All job-cards signed off by artisan and client
  • Plant and area returned in acceptable condition after completion of maintenance work.
  • Less than 4 preventable callouts on responsible area

To perform plant inspections/schedules

  • All problems identified and reported to planner/work coordinator
  • Less than 2% of inspection/schedule jobs repeated as maintenance jobs within 1 month (rework)
  • Schedule plant and equipment inspections to detect impending equipment failure, deterioration in performance or safety standards
  • Perform scheduled maintenance inspections

To participate in RCI’s, troubleshooting and problem solving

  • All rework/repeat failures investigated, and solutions/corrective actions documented
  • Investigate the source/cause of problems
  • Do fault finding and take corrective actions
  • Apply the skills of respective trade/craft/discipline in troubleshooting/RCI’s and problem solving
  • Feedback information as part of Root Cause Analysis as required

Participate in transferring of skills and formulation of procedures based on specific

trade skills

  • Double sign off on jobs where trainee accompanied artisan
  • Standard fault finding and repair documents prepared
  • Leverage trade skills to apprentice and other maintenance associates
  • Assist in the development of Maintenance Work Procedures

Technical Competencies

  • Computer literacy on MS Office and SAP PM
  • Sound knowledge of SANS 347, SANS 3834.
  • Sound knowledge of safety and legal requirements relating to among others the OHSAct
  • SHERQ Training course (risk assessments)
  • Safety Work Permit training
  • Problem solving and decision making
  • Root Cause Investigation/Analyses training
  • Able to communicate fluently in English (read, write and speak)
  • Piping and pressure vessel data book compilation

Other details

Salary: R500K basic salary per annum negotiable depending on experience.
