Fabrication and Welding Supervisor

This Position is based at our head office near Helensburgh, with our contracts mainly regional but can be Scotland wide – in the Defence, Oil and Gas and Construction sectors

Our ideal candidate will have a fabrication background with knowledge of Mild (mostly), Stainless and Aluminium Fabrications as well as Pipeline Fabrication, Installation and Repairs and should have some experience managing defence and oil and gas contracts.

They must be familiar with current health and safety and environmental standards and legislation.

They should also be familiar with and have a good working knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 Quality standards and EN1090 (CE Marking) for maintenance and upkeep of our certifications

The successful candidate will be self-motivated, a team player with excellent organisational skills, able to build good working relationships, completing projects on time and within budget.

The role will be split between the office, site and the shop floor as demand dictates

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Complete site surveys, taking accurate measurements to enable detailing of requested work.
  • Assist with estimating process for job costing
  • Agree specifications of work and realistic timescales with clients
  • Arrange and manage all welding documentation (Welder Quals, WPQR, WPS, etc)
  • Set up and supervise fabrications and site installations and troubleshoot as and when required
  • Ensure all welding operations are executed in a manner which meets customer requirements
  • Create method statements, risk assessments and task briefings for site installation
  • Ensure all project documentation is securely and correctly compiled
  • Ensure all projects are produced and installed to required quality standards
  • Liaising with clients, suppliers, sub-contractors and NDT/Inspection personnel on a daily basis

The successful candidate must have:

– Minimum 20 years experience in a fabrication role with some of this being in a supervisory position
– Extensive experience on pipeline installation and repair projects
– Extensive experience in medium (mostly) and heavy fabrication projects
– Qualifications relevant to the position – HND, BSc, for example

– Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal
– A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Project and CAD software
– Ability to read and understand technical drawings
– Ability to supervise multiple projects concurrently and work to tight timescales
– Excellent man management skills

Desirable but not mandatory:

– CSCS card an advantage
– SC Security Clearance
– Inspection/NDT/Testing experience and qualification
– Ability to provide sketches to work to where drawings are not provided or required
