Overview

Position Summary:

Heddle Shipyards is looking for an experienced pipe welder/fitter to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Installing and repairing piping systems onboard ships and submarines such as steam, heat, power, hydraulics, compressed air, sea water, freshwater and chilled water system
  • Assemble and install metal pipes and pipe fittings for stainless and carbon steel projects
  • Read and interpret pipe and pressure vessel drawings, as well as structural steel drawings
  • Layout and develop pipe and pressure vessel fabrications
  • Repair and maintain pipe systems and components; breaks, leaks, obstructions, cracks, holes
  • Cuts, threads and bends pipe
  • Secures pipes to structure with brackets, clamps and hangers
  • Measure and fabricate pipe routings to match existing in-line piping systems
  • Maintain and develop working knowledge of various welding techniques and materials


Qualifications & Experience:


Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will have Metal Fabricator (trade code 437A) or Welder (trade code 456A) Certificate of Qualification, or equivalent
  • CWB “all position” SMAW certification (carbon steel)
  • CWB 3 position (min.) FCAW certification (carbon steel)
  • Other CWB or TSSA welding certifications with carbon or stainless alloys considered an asset


Experience

  • 3+ years experience in TIG welding process including at least 1 year of experience in pipe fitting of stainless steel equipment/layout
  • Knowledge of specific welding hazards to protect self and others
  • Ability to correctly and safely work with hand and power tools, steel/stainless steel, pipes, and other related materials;
  • FCAW, MCAW, or SMAW welding in all position, overhead and vertical
  • Welding and fitting stainless steel

    • Welding and fitting aluminum
    • Experience working at heights and in confined spaces
    • Experience mobilizing, inspecting, assembling, and de-mobolizing work area
