Welder – Maintenance and Repair

System One is actively seeking a Welder for a contract position located in San Antonio, TX.

Welder Responsibilities:

  • Candidate will be an individual contributor who performs routine to moderate craft work
  • This position is responsible for joining metals to form a permanent bond using hand welding and flame cutting equipment such as arc welders, gas welders, and gas torches to weld together metal components (flat, horizontal, or vertical plates and pipes)
  • Responsible for cutting, shaping and putting together a variety of different metalwork and piping
  • Works from sketches, prints, operation sheets, preliminary drawings, and written/verbal instructions
  • This role requires a skilled welder capable of maintain and following engineering drawings/ welding specifications accurately and safely
  • Welds metal components and parts using specialized equipment such as gas welders and gas torches; uses electrical currents to create heat and bond metals
  • Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures; plans work by interpreting blueprints
  • Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
  • Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cut material with powered saws to match measurements)
  • Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead)
  • Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps
  • Test and inspect welded surfaces to evaluate weld quality and conformance to specifications
  • Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety
  • Performs other duties and works on special projects as assigned

Welder Requirements:

  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent on the job training, military training, technical school or other qualifiers coupled with a minimum of one-year related experience
  • Proven experience as welder and experience as a fire watcher in accordance with DoE
  • There will be a weld test
  • Welder must be able to start immediately
  • A self-starter with the ability to work independently with little supervision
  • Understanding of blueprints, shop drawings, weld symbols preferred (not required)
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings
  • Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures
  • Experience in using electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, calipers etc.)
  • Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves etc.)
  • Must demonstrate manual dexterity, deftness and attention to detail
  • Demonstrate ownership of assigned responsibilities and ability to get the job done correctly and in a timely manner
  • Must know the welding equipment and how to set the machines
  • Must be able to weld in a flat position
  • Mon-Fri, 7:00am-3:30pm
  • Some OT will be required as needed
