Job Description

A Welding Leaderman assigns tasks and supervises Fitter, Welders, Helpers, and Painters daily to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.

Essential Job Functions

Ability to troubleshoot problems, identify, propose and implement remedies

Perform repairs and maintenance aboard dredges and other marine vessels

Install, assemble, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair various equipment.

Fabricate with different types of metals via torches, plasma & other related craft power tools.

Understanding of diagrams, schematics, drawings and technical manuals for repairs and diagnostics of equipment.

Understand and sketch complex mechanical and structural drawings

Utilize instruments to measure angles, material thickness and distances i.e. – squares, levels, tapes & other craft related devices

Regularly communicate and work with contractors, vendors, and other trades

Ensure work areas are kept clean and well organized

Complete assigned tasks in a safe/productive manner

Follows all company and work site safety policies/procedures and commits to an “Incident and Injury Free” work environment

Perform other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities

Ability to lead others and provide detailed instructions

Supervises and participates in the fabrication, maintenance and repair of equipment / vessels.

Directly supervises fitters, welders, helpers, laborers, and painters

Training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work in a safe manner.

Required Certifications or Licenses

Must possess a valid Driver’s license, must have a good driving record

Requirements

8+ years of fabrication and shipyard experience

This position requires fluent use of the verbal and written English language

Must have reliable transportation to and from the job site

Travel (by land, air, and water) to field locations is required.

Ability to work a 50 hour work week M-F, overtime as needed

Must be able to work 7 days/week as needed

Ability to understand and draw complex mechanical and structural drawings

Ability to read and interpret technical manuals

Technical understanding of stick, tig/mig & flux-core processes

Experience in weld testing procedures i.e. – visual inspection, pressure testing, dye penetrant & hydrostatic.

Familiar with all fitting aspects of manipulating different types of metals via torches, plasma, arc gauging, with various gas

Proficient knowledge with proper installation and welding procedures

Ability to communicate with contractors, vendors, and other trades

Ability to work independently and with others – team player

Good communication skills with co-workers and supervisors

Strong problem-solving abilities

Understanding of ABS, OSHA, and USCG regulations related to marine industry

Ensure a safe work environment and practices to assigned employees

Ensure employees keep work areas clean and in efficient working order

Ensure assigned tasks are completed in a timely and cost-effective manner

Ensure Company procedures and guidelines are followed by assigned employees

Review / critique work in progress by employees

Provide technical support to employees on assigned tasks

Provide technical support (via cellphone) to equipment personnel in need of assistance to solve issues aboard dredges and other vessels

Ensure proper maintenance and upkeep of facility and assigned equipment

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat and lift for long periods of time.

Ability to work at heights, climb ladders and stairways and work from platforms.

Must be capable of working outside in the elements including but not limited to the heat, cold, rain, snow and wind; and must be able to work for long period of times up to 12 hours a day.

Must be able to lift 50 lbs unassisted
