POSITION DESCRIPTION

Ironworker/ Steel Erection

Summary:

The Ironworker erects structural and miscellaneous steel, at times welding from heights. Must have experience in the field. Performs welding of columns, beams, installing stairs, railings and other duties as needed.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Unloads and organizes steel material
  • Erect steel columns, beams, bar joist, and other structural steel components
  • Installs frames, stairs, handrails, and other steel components
  • Installs materials efficiently while meeting acceptable job specific tolerances
  • Welds or bolts connections in accordance with details or plans
  • Installs miscellaneous structural steel including kicker brace, support channel, hangers, posts, etc.
  • Bolts aligned structural-steel members in position for permanent bolting or welding into place
  • Erects steel stairs stringer, metal pans, guardrail, and handrail
  • Installs ladders, railings, grating, and other miscellaneous steel
  • Installs cable rail fall protection
  • Cuts and welds steel using torches and welding equipment
  • Adheres to the company’s safety policies to create a safe work environment
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements

  • Must have valid US work authorization
  • Must have reliable transportation and be dependable
  • Must be able to work effectively and safely with fellow workers, contractors and supervisors
  • Sufficient education or an equivalent combination of experience, education and training that provides the desired knowledge, skills and characteristics to perform duties of the role

Other Desired Qualifications/Skills:

  • 10 Hour OSHA Certification or willingness to obtain
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Ability to work at heights without fear
  • Ability to perform on a regular basis in outside weather conditions consisting of wet, hot, humid, and freezing temperatures, also contending with dirt, dust and noise
  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency
  • Must have a good work ethic, and the ability to understand and carry out written or verbal instructions
  • Ability to read specifications and blueprints to determine the locations, quantities, and sizes of materials required
  • Excellent communication skills
