Overview

Metals USA has an immediate opening for a Flux Core Welder in the Waggaman, LA location. The Flux Core Welder is responsible for manufacturing sheet metal products to support the project requirements. The Welder is responsible to permanently join/fasten parts together to form a finished product.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Reads and correctly comprehends complex assembly drawings, blueprints and sketches for a variety of metal products to include, stainless steel, aluminum, cold-rolled and hot-rolled steel.

Interprets engineering drawings, work samples, specifications and work orders to determine welding work requirements and sequence of welding assignment.

Operates fabrication equipment using MIG and TIG welding machinery. Uses a variety of hand tools as required.

Fabricates/Assembles the parts to the industrial customer specifications ensuring quality products.

Comprehends fractional and decimal dimensions.

Visualizes the finished product from start to finish. Starts and completes the manufacturing process with limited supervision.

Recognizes materials (e.g. stainless steel, aluminum…) and determines gauge.

Inspects and tests welds & equipment constantly. Checks for durability as well as meeting specified standards.

Notifies management of product discrepancies, equipment malfunctions and/or personal injuries.

Regular and predictable attendance is required to perform the duties of a welder.

Understands and adheres to all safety regulations to include the company’s safety policies, OSHA Adheres to Reliance Steel and Aluminum’s Code of Conduct as well as customer confidentiality requirements.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:
High School Graduate or Equivalent

Minimum two years of welding experience or completion of welding classes at trade/community college.

Prior experience with all types of welding to include MIG & TIG; must be proficient.

Must be able to pass the AWS welding examination

Must have advanced measuring skills, both standard & metric using a measuring tape, caliper or micrometer.

Ability to comprehend basic geometry; and the ability to calculate & convert decimals and fractions.

Must be mechanically inclined with a willingness to learn and accept instructions.

Working knowledge of hand tools (e.g. grinder, electric drills…) in a sheet metal/fabrication environment.

Ability to stand for long periods of time

Detail oriented with the ability to inspect material for quality

Demonstrated manual dexterity, finger dexterity, arm-hand steadiness and multi-limb coordination
