Overview
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Maintain all mechanical equipment throughout the port facility. Trouble shoot and repair all equipment, in compliance with appropriate safety regulations, codes, and NCSPA policies and procedures.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
- Diagnose and troubleshoot technical and functional problems with equipment for repairs
- Service and repair all port equipment including forklifts, cranes, manlifts, loaders, conveyor belt systems, mechanical motor drives, gearboxes etc.
- Service both gasoline and diesel motors
- Service equipment in conjunction with the work order system
- Must have a general knowledge of or be willing to operate all equipment (forklifts, loaders, manlifts, etc.)
- Design and fabricate components using ac/dc welding and acetylene torch cutting equipment
- Fabricate steel, aluminum, and stainless-steel parts, assemblies, objects, structures, etc.
- Finish, prime, and paint steel, aluminum, and stainless-steel parts, assemblies, objects, structures, etc.
- Perform arc welding, brazing, TIG welding, MIG welding, spot welding, etc. as required
- Perform torch cutting, air-arc cutting, mechanical cutting and grinding, drilling, milling, etc. as required
- Must be able to use hydraulic press, hydraulic hose machine, tire changer and balancer
- Set up materials and equipment appropriate for special projects and complete activities as time permits or as priority is established for the project
- Must be able to understand work orders and read equipment maintenance manuals and schematics
- Create and complete work orders when needed in SAP
- Must be able to wear and use the following safety equipment: respirators, safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection, safety vest, flotation vest and other equipment as needed
- Must be willing to obey all port safety and environmental regulations and ensure internal and external customer service is a priority
- Work overtime as assigned, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- All other duties as assigned by management
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- High School diploma or equivalent, plus 1-3 years of experience in welding is required
- Must be able to safely operate heavy equipment and power tools
- Must possess comprehensive knowledge regarding all aspects of equipment maintenance
- The ability and desire to learn and receive training is required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs is required and familiarity with SAP is preferred
- Must have strong analytical and project management skills and a high level of safety consciousness
- Must have a valid driver’s license and meet TWIC security requirements
WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Strenuous physical demands are required to safely perform job duties and operate machinery and tools. Frequently exposed to dirt, dust, grease, noise, and hot and cold seasonal weather. Must be capable of standing for extended periods of time, bending routinely, working in confined spaces with limited access, and working in awkward body positions. Must be able to frequently lift up to 50 pounds. Requires moderate physical ability to climb to heights up to 200 feet, occasionally. Must be able to wear PPE appropriate to the job being performed, i.e. welding helmet, respirator, etc.
