JOB SUMMARY

Fleet Maintenance & Technical Services is responsible for: scheduled, unscheduled and emergency service; seasonal overhauls; vehicle commissioning/decommissioning; vehicle inspections and certifications; warranty monitoring; shop and specialty tool maintenance/management; maintenance of small equipment and special equipment such as fire, ambulance, ice resurfacing, turf, etc.; repair performance analysis; and Technical Services including specifying, acquiring, leasing and disposing of Municipal Fleet Vehicles.

You are responsible for performing duties concerning welding, maintaining and servicing motor vehicles, equipment and attachments.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of 1 year welding certificate

Minimum of 3 years of experience in welding

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES

Must obtain Ontario unrestricted DZ class driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) within the timeframe determined by the employer

Must obtain Forklift Operator Licence within the timeframe determined by the employer

KNOWLEDGE

Principles, methods and techniques of various types of welding, including Arc, Stick welding, flux core welding, etc., with oxy-acetylene, high frequency tungsten inert gas and high voltage inert gas welding on a variety of metals, including cast iron, stainless steels, aluminums

Proven demonstrated knowledge and ability to diagnose and repair hydraulic systems

Metal fitting, layout, cutting techniques, using oxy-acetylene, plasma arc, air arc gouging and abrasive wheels

Methods and techniques used in mounting, assembly, hoisting, rigging, jig and overhead crane operation

Fabrication and welding shop practices

Methods and techniques of using various equipment and tools, including heating and cutting welding torches, impact gun, welding rods, grinders, saws and other hand/power tools to carry out welding assignments

WHMIS

Computer literacy in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and basic computer knowledge to work with a Fleet Maintenance System

Working knowledge of Fleet Maintenance Program Branch policies and procedures

Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Language Requirement: English oral, reading, writing

Driver’s License Requirement: A valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated

You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.

Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
