Overview
We are looking for a Technical Officer to support our Construction Research Centre. The Technical Officer would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.
NRC Construction is implementing the “Platform to Decarbonize the Construction Sector at Scale” to accelerate and scale up new technologies to help transition the Canadian construction sector towards decarbonization and contribute to the emerging low-carbon economy. It will also establish new codes, standards, specifications, and guidelines to position the sector to achieve its 2050 greenhouse gas (GHG) carbon reduction targets. These investments will help spur the growth of Canada’s clean technology sector and help achieve Canada’s international commitments to reduce GHG emissions.
The successful candidate will play an important role within the Facades Systems and Products team, by providing construction services. Responsibilities include playing a role in the design, construction, maintenance and troubleshooting test samples and test apparatus; and, organization and maintenance of the tool shops.
Screening Criteria
Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:
Education
College diploma in Manufacturing Engineering, Carpentry, Renovation, Machining, Industrial millwright.
An equivalency combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.

Experience
Basic experience in construction and fabrication of residential and/or commercial buildings and components.
Basic experience with the safe operation, routine maintenance, and basic repair of wood and metal working tools, such as: table saw, band saw, mitre saw, drill press, welder, lathe work, milling machine, measurement tools.
Basic experience with methods and techniques related to preparing drawings, fabricating designs from drawings, trouble shooting and problem solving.
Basic experience in technical report writing could be considered an asset.
Experience working in a project management focused multi-disciplinary research environment could be considered an asset.

Technical Competencies
Knowledge of standard practices in construction and fabrication of residential and/or commercial building assemblies and components.
Knowledge of occupational health and safety best practices required to create and maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
Ability to analyze and discuss technical issues, troubleshoot and solve problems relating to the fabrication of residential and/or commercial building assemblies and components.

Relocation
Relocation assistance will be determined in accordance with the NRC’s directives.
Compensation
From $49,298 to $69,364 per annum.
