Job Description

Metro Group is Canada’s leading expert in Waste and Recycling Equipment solutions. We are currently looking for a Welder/Installer with strong mechanical aptitude to fabricate/weld compactor feed systems as well as to install compactors/balers.

The Welder/Installer’s time will be split between the Metro Compactor custom welding shop, and at customer sites for installation. At the shop, you will be responsible for shop repairs (welding/hydraulic…etc) and preparation for new equipment installation. During installation, you will dismantle and remove existing machinery and install the new compactor/baler along with its feed system. When performing installations, you will be working 50/50 indoors and outdoors.

Work Hours:
8:00am to 4:30pm. The Welder/Installer is expected to work occasional overtime. This is typically due to travel time from job sites or longer work days.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As part of the crew:
Using (MIG) welding and torch cutting to produce and repair waste and recycling equipment

Using ARC/Stick welding, weld support stands for waste sorters on customer sites.

Operates various power tools and cutting torches as required. Assorted hand tools including screw drivers, grinders hammers, vice grip, pry bars etc.

Moves materials, installs and dismantles machinery and equipment.

Positions forks, lifting platform, overhead crane or other lifting/rigging devices over or around machinery and/or equipment to be moved or unloaded.

Lifts and positions equipment onto a vehicle, or from vehicle to a spot on the floor.

Assist with other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Able to lift up to 60 pounds

Must be mechanically inclined.

Ability to read measuring tape.

Welding/Fabricating Experience (will train if this is not your strong suit)

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

A valid class 5 license

Forklift license, propane counterbalance (will train)

Working at Heights, Aerial platform and other certifications an asset (will train)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to operate equipment and machinery; climb or balance; kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk with and listen to other team members, supervisor, and customers. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; outside weather conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. PPE is required to be worn as per our H & S policies
