Overview

Job Description: Assembles and tack-welds steel frames and other component parts of machinery and equipment in preparation for final welding: Measures and marks locations for metal components on assembly table, following blueprints. Lifts and positions components on assembly table, using electric crane, jacks, and shims. Verifies position of metal components in assembly, using straightedge, combination square, calipers, and rule.

Role and Responsibilities:
Assembles and tack-welds steel frames and other component parts of machinery and equipment in preparation for final welding: Measures and marks locations for metal components on assembly table, following blueprints.

Lifts and positions components on assembly table, using electric crane, jacks, and shims.

Verifies position of metal components in assembly, using straightedge, combination square, calipers, and rule.

Clamps metal components to assembly table for welding.

Tack-welds parts in preparation for final welding.

Study job orders, travelers, and drawings to determine machining, welding, and assembling operations to be performed. Read specifications.

Lay out, set up and operate one or more light or heavy metalworking machines such as shears, saws, plate rolls, drills, brakes, punch presses, computer numerically controlled (CNC) equipment, and other hand tools to cut, bend, roll, ream, punch and drill, weld or otherwise shape and form metal stock into parts or products

May cut, grind or chip excess metal from metal products using hand tools

Repair worn parts of metal products by welding on extra layers.

Grind and buff seams, joints, and rough surfaces

Inspection/Quality Assurance

Check subassemblies and inspect finished products for proper quality

Inspect products for conformance to quality standards

Check mechanical assemblies and subassemblies for alignment and proper functioning

Test and check electrical assemblies and wiring for proper connections

Work with quality team to resolve and solve any quality issues.

Record information on products inspected and work orders. Mark defective parts or products for repair and bring to the attention of the supervisor

Perform minor adjustments and repairs.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:
High school diploma or GED certificate.

5-years minimum experience in Welding

Use of hands/fingers or feel during normal job requirements.

Stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl while working on equipment.

Lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. (and occasionally up to 100 lbs. with assistance.)

Be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and outside weather conditions (extreme heat and cold).

Required to work in areas of extreme temperatures due to weather conditions and operating equipment.

Ability to climb various equipment and ladders, lift and carry equipment, tools and components weighing up to 50 lbs.

Military experience and training with honorable discharge a plus.
