Title: Welder – Fitter

Location: Cambridge, Ontario, Canada

We have expertise in this specialized area of design and manufacturing, which has been enabled through years of dedication by our knowledgeable staff. We are currently looking for fifteen full-time welder-fitters with the ability to work at a variety of duties to join our team. This is a full-time year-round position.

Details of this position:

  • Permanent, Full time
  • 40 hours a week Minimum;
  • $26 to $30 per hour
  • 15 vacation days/vacation pay 6% on wages earned

Job Duties:

  • Read, analyze and interpret blueprints, welding process specifications, drawings, and measurements to plan layouts to meet product specification
  • Determining the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
  • Setting up components for welding according to specifications
  • Use manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as gas metal arc welding (GMAW), and shielded metal arc welding (SMAW)
  • Competently utilize manual or semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment
  • Weld small and large components
  • Assess welded surfaces, structures and components to identify errors
  • Follow and enforce strict safety regulations such as wearing heat-resistant gloves, protective masks, and safety shoes
  • Monitor machinery for appropriate usage and temperature
  • Weld components in flat, vertical, and overhead positions
  • Able to do the following welding types: custom fabrication, ship building and repair, aerospace precision welding, pressure vessel welding, pipeline construction welding, structural construction welding, or machinery and equipment repair welding
  • Choosing the best equipment to weld specific metals
  • Identifying issues and hazards
  • Operating angle grinders and other tools
  • Lining up specific metal components using calipers, rulers, and clamp pieces
  • Operate oxygen arc cutting equipment (arc-air), (AOC)
  • Operate hoisting and lifting equipment
  • Examine welds and ensure that they meet standards and/or specifications
  • Manufacture and fabricate finished metal products
  • Install and repair various equipment and components

Job Requirements

  • Welding experience is an asset in the following:
  • Shielded metal arc welding (SMAW)
  • Gas metal arc welding (GMAW)
  • Flux core arc welding (FCAW)
  • Multipass
  • Familiarity with welding tools & procedures
  • Ability to handle physical workload ie: Lift weight of Up to 23 kg (50 lbs)
  • Productively works with others as a team member as well as independently
  • Demonstrate safe work habits and apply safe practices
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail
