Overview

Summary:

Under general supervisor, mechanically and manually fits, tacks, and welds a variety of fabricated parts, structural steel and related materials in accordance with established and developing engineering and manufacturing specifications to produce commercial weldments within reasonable and/or expected time frames.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

· Reads and understands a work order packet and other related work documentation to determine what work needs to be built and the appropriate processes to be used.

· Obtains material identified in the work order packet.

· Sets Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) machines to required heat and amperage of produce leak-proof welds in carbon steel, stainless steel, and any other required metals. Products typically worked on will include, but not limited to large welded cases.

· Will be required to solder or braze terminals and other component parts.

· Communicates with production supervisor regarding any non-conformances in shop materials, instructions or other irregularities. Informs production supervisor on completion of job tasks assigned including applicable quality checks.

· Maintains a safe and healthy condition on company property to achieve the best working environment possible for all employees and visitors.

· Assemble fabricated metal parts into a completed case utilizing shop documentation, BOM’s, etc., select the proper material, subassemblies, etc. and assemble/fit into completed assembly utilizing fixtures and jigs as required.

· Weld all seams, brackets and subassemblies of similar thickness in carbon steel.

· Weld all seams, brackets and subassemblies of similar thickness in aluminum.

· Weld all seams, brackets and subassemblies of similar thickness in stainless steel.

· Weld all seams, brackets and subassemblies of different thickness in aluminum and/or stainless steel and/or carbon steel.

· Performs other assignments as requested or as business needs require.

Qualifications/Requirements:

· High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

· 2+ years welding experience in a manufacturing environment.

· Must be a self-starter with a high level of detail and ability to multi-task as necessary.

· Ability to read and comprehend instructions and understand manufacturing documents.

· Must have high school math skills.

· Ability to use a ruler, tape measure, and/or caliper.

· Ability to define basic/routine problems, evaluate and establish facts and seek solutions to problems.

· Ability to train new employees.

Goals/Objectives

· Provide a completed assembly, within specified time allotted, where the final dimensions and component part dimensions are within drawing specifications.

· All case seam welds to be leak free. All welds to meet company process specifications and be completed in allotted time.

· All seams joints are leak free structurally sound and completed in allotted time.

· Work area is organized with no potential for foreign object contamination in finished product.

· All lot travelers and/or shop sheets are accurately completed in a timely manner.

· All hours worked on a job are recorded and accounted for.

· Employees are properly trained for job-related tasks.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires that the person is physically able to lift/move, carry, push and/or pull items weighing 25 lbs. up to 50 lbs. The incumbent will be required to stand for long periods of time up to 5+ hours on a daily basis and walk frequently. Must be able to frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, twist, grasp, and make repetitive hand movements. Regularly required to use close, distance, color, and peripheral vision; and depth perception.

Working Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to potential of electrical shock and moving mechanical parts, and regularly exposed to hazardous dust. The noise level of this work environment is moderately to highly noisy. The lighting is adequate in the plant. Employees are required to wear safety glasses and closed toe shoes and other personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. The temperature is comfortable but areas of heat may be encountered.

Pay: $17.00 – $19.00 per hour
