Overview
Take ownership and accountability of leadership responsibilities
As a leader, it is your job to guide others safely through their work tasks. Leaders are responsible for both the success and failures of the team. As a result, it is important to take responsibility and pride for assigned job tasks. Accept constructive feedback and help contribute towards the overall solution.
Communicate clearly and assertively to co-workers
Express your needs directly, honestly and in an appropriate manner. This approach allows leaders to seek the best possible outcome and helps to maintain a positive relationship.
Work as liaison between workers and management to create/maintain communication
Communicate necessary information from managers to employees in an appropriate, receptive manner. Escalate information to managers when situations involve safety/quality issues or violate Harmon’s policies and procedures.
Work to create/maintain communication
Communicate necessary information to Team Leaders in an appropriate, receptive manner. Coach Team Leaders on how to address situations involving safety/quality issues or anything that violates Harmon’s policies and procedures.
Provide prompt and constructive feedback on performance
Provide constructive feedback that is specific, issue focused, and based on observations. It can be given through praise or criticism. Be direct when delivering a message, be sincere and avoid giving mixed messages. When providing positive feedback, express appreciation and when providing negative feedback, express concern (communicates a sense of importance and care).
Be proficient in blueprint drawing interpretation
Be able to understand blueprint drawings and identify how to assemble the unit with proper quality and safety precautions.

Have strong leadership skills
Have strong leadership skills, including: self-awareness, the ability to adapt communication to the situation and the ability to inspire and motivate others.
Engage and motivate employees to enhance production quantity and maintain high production
Encourage positive, desirable behavior that improves the flow of production through feedback, incentives, rewards and recognition. Encourage employees to develop innovative ideas that could improve current processes.
Lead by example
Act like an owner and make decisions based on the greater good of Harmon and our objectives. Be proactive and accountable. Recognize that there is always a part of the projects that you can impact in a positive way. Exhibit the behavior you wish your employees to emulate.
Train Team Leaders & new employees
Blend in-person and online training to accommodate each Team Leader and new employees to ensure they have retained the information being taught. Provide hands-on training so they can apply what they have learned before having to translate the skills into day-to-day tasks. Allow employees to learn at their own pace with reasonable consideration.
Carry out supervisor responsibilities within Harmon policies
You address production, safety, and quality concerns when they arise. Recommends personnel actions, i.e. promotions, transfers, pay increases, discipline and discharges. Complete time & attendance.
Conduct performance reviews
Conducts timely employee evaluations. Provides employees with prompt and constructive feedback on performance.
Partner with the Team Leaders on balancing the shop floor with workers
Determine the skill set of employees within the shop compared to the ideal skill set desired to effectively run the job. Balance employees on the production floor to create the best equilibrium possible and achieve the highest productivity and efficiency results.
Provide leadership and oversight to the shop floor
Provide leadership and oversight to manufacturing floor level staff, including: safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and training.
Manage production of shop personnel
Ensure Team Leaders and shop employees are working diligently to meet production goals by motivating, answering questions and providing support when needed.
Actively assist in culture building
Ensure the shop floor is an equitable and inclusive workplace where all employees feel valued and can thrive through trainings, coaching, and overall strategy and practice.
Participate in the Culture Committee
Partner with the Team leaders and Area process leads to help define and create strategies for Harmon’s organizational culture goals, working to make Harmon an employer of choice. Report findings and action plans to Plant and Shop Manager.
Production Management
Meet daily production goals
Monitor the department to ensure employees are working effectively. Coach the Team Leaders on how to delegate and provide support to the department, when needed, to ensure the daily production goals are met.
Maintain efficiency and productivity of the shop floor
Analyze manufacturing data to identify any production bottlenecks or eliminate unnecessary processes. Work with production engineers to determine ways to improve the speed and/or accuracy of fabrication equipment.
Maintain cost control for the shop floor
Analyze different elements of the production floor to determine potential cost savings. Assists the plant in maintaining competitive processes and profit levels by controlling or reducing shop floor costs.
Lead daily Tier 2 meeting
Review quality updates, production goals, previous targets, safety updates, and expected arrival of materials with appropriate leaders and office staff.
Provide support for Tier 1 meetings
Provide support to Team Leaders during the Tier 1 meetings.
Address delays and develop corrective measures needed to take
Determine the root cause of issues on the shop floor and partner with Team Leaders to develop a plan to resolve issues and communicate to the team when applicable.
Lead and participate in kaizen process improvement projects
Lead and participate in the kaizen (structured problem solving) process. Time, effort and resources needed depend on the magnitude of issue required to be resolved. Lead processes in which you are responsible for overseeing. Support larger initiatives. Identify Kaizen pipeline in conjunction with Plant Manager and Team Leaders.
Identify ways to improve production process
Develop best practices that provide the most effective flow for the project to run. Incorporate input from the team to ensure the most valuable ideas are being utilized.
Participate in and drive company continuous improvement
Participate in and drive our continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities for streamlining work and reducing cost and waste. Participate in and drive the kaizen (structured problem solving) process. Motivate employees to participate in improving their workplace both physically and financially.
Assist in the creation and development of standard work instructions
Describe the purpose of the work instruction and how to complete specific tasks in the most efficient and safest manner while achieving the highest quality. Decide on formatting and ensure the document is short, simple and clear.
Quality Management
Regularly check units throughout each station to ensure they meet quality standards
Inspect units periodically to ensure they are being built safely and meet the quality standards. Refer to the QA/QC (Quality Assurance/Quality Control) program which outlines the quality procedures that will be conducted on a daily basis for the job.
Encourage Continuous Improvement
Champion shop employees to Continuous Improvement efforts through leading by example. Apply Continuous Improvement principles in your own work performance and drive Continuous Improvement application in the company’s operations.
Develop and manage quality systems and processes
Coach Team Leaders on addressing safety, quality and delivery issues. Lead the team to addresses quality issues though root cause analysis and other problem-solving CI tools.
Adhere to quality assurance measures to ensure a quality product is being delivered
Adhere to the job/project specific quality procedures outlined in the document provided at the beginning of each job.
Safety Management
Ensure shop safety and safe working conditions are always being met
Ensure all employees follow safety policies and procedures put in place to identify risks in the workplace. Ensure all employees have received proper training to eliminate the potential for injuries within the workplace. Ensure all tools and equipment are in good working order. Establish an environment that encourages open communication to report safety events when observed.
Coordinate local Safety Committee
Coordinate and attend Safety Committee meeting, which includes a group of employees that meet regarding safety conditions within the shop, develop action plans and promote positive safe work conditions.
Assist in the development of Job Hazard Analysis
Focus on the relationship between the worker, task, tools, and work environment to identify proactive measures to prevent job hazards.
Maintain certification in operating cranes and forklifts
Maintain training and certification in operating cranes and forklifts based on OSHA requirements.
Attend “flex & stretch” meetings
Attend a meeting at the beginning of each shift in which employees engage in specific exercises that help them loosen muscles that are vital to completing their daily job functions.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum of high school diploma or GED
6-8 years of related work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Curtain wall industry experience will be asset
At least one year of supervisory experience
