Overview

Reporting to the Branch Manager, the Maintenance Mechanic/Fabricator is responsible for performing routine and extensive maintenance on all machinery and equipment, including basic forklift maintenance. The Maintenance Mechanic/Fabricator solves mechanical, hydraulic and electrical problems on production equipment in order to minimize production downtime. In addition, this position is responsible for the fabrication and assembly of plastic fittings and value added (belling/perforating) pipe.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

· Operates Extrusion welders, Hot plates, Drill press, Band Saw, Perforator, Electro Fusion Welder and hand power tools.

· Manufacture fitting for supplier drawings, blueprints and company standards.

· Develops layout and plans sequence of operations.

· Performs daily visual inspections of fabrication equipment to ensure equipment is working safely. Performs repairs and adjustments on equipment as required.

· Maintains a clean, uncluttered and safe work area as designated.

· Marks all products produced in the area with description and order number as required.

· Troubleshoots mechanical, hydraulic and electrical problems related to production equipment such as extruder, corrugators, conveyors, blenders, grinders, blowers and conveying systems.

· Reads electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic plans and diagrams.

· Performs preventative maintenance and inspection of equipment.

· Completes basic maintenance on Company owned forklifts, such as simple oil changes, seat replacement, mirror replacement, starter replacement

· Maintains building in a clean condition.

· Puts in place patches to reduce downtime related to failures.

· Performs welding work on production equipment.

· Complies with and follows Company Health and Safety policies, procedures, practices and legislative standards.

· Performs all other work activities as assigned and required.

Qualifications:

· 3 – 5 years of experience in product manufacturing setting, or related field.

· Industrial mechanic or automated systems electro mechanic diploma or Licensed Industrial Millwright. Post-secondary education in a related trade.

· Ability to repair a variety of equipment and machinery.

· Proven ability to weld.

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for production equipment.

· Ability to read blue prints and schematics.

· Safe operation of power tools.

· Physically fit and able to lift heavy objects and stand for long periods of time.

· Sound judgement and decision-making skills for production decision making purposes.

· Solid organizational and time and priority management on a daily, weekly, monthly and annual basis.

· Efficient, reliable with attention to detail. All work is completed with care to ensure quality.

· A self-starter including initiative and self-confidence for leadership and self-motivation purposes; with limited direction

· Team player, willing to take direction and suggest efficiencies

· Ability to work with metric measurements and trigonometry.

· Good communication and interpersonal skills.
