Overview
Job Summary:
Under the direction of a Journeyman Welder, an Apprentice Welder assists with all tasks related to welding, while learning the skill of welding to form fabricated components and/or make modifications or repairs. The Apprentice Welder may be required to ship or receive materials and perform maintenance on welding equipment.
Job Responsibilities:
– Assists Journeyman Welders in all tasks and duties pertaining to fabrication and welding metal following precise instructions.
– Follow welding procedures required as specified on work orders or travelers, ensure parameters for each welding procedure are followed as called for on the specific welding procedure specification (WPS).
– Complete assigned tasks efficiently and ensure that quality standards are met (API Standards).
– Set up, adjust, and operate welding equipment
– Read and interpret welding blueprints, sketches, diagrams, manuals and/or parts to be repaired or fabricated to determine operations to be performed and materials required.
– Clean and maintain shop and perform light maintenance on welding equipment, tools, etc.
– Participate in safety meetings and provide feedback for pre-job hazard assessments.
– Operate company equipment using safe work habits, obeying all company and legislated rules.
– May perform other general duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
– Enrolled in Welder technical training certification program in Alberta. Must have successfully completed their first year of their apprenticeship program.
– Experienced and qualified in applicable WPS supported by Procedure Qualifications Records (PQR) an asset.
– Experience in the oilfield services sector in Alberta an asset, with an aptitude for physical labour.
– Good English skills, both spoken and written with the ability to communicate with respect and professionalism.
Working Environment, Physical Condition, and Capacities:
– Working in dusty, dirty, and noisy environments
– May be exposed to temperature extremes and adverse weather conditions while working outside
– Physically capable of moving/lifting heavy objects, bending, standing, stooping repeatedly for extended periods.
– Must be comfortable with climbing and able to work at heights.
– Must have excellent manual dexterity, attention to detail, eyesight, and hand-eye coordination.
– Able to work with exposure to fumes, airborne particles, vibration, loud noise, heat, and cold while wearing appropriate PPE.
