SAIT’s Centre for Continuing Education and Professional Studies focuses on the non-credit programming for the individual learner. We create courses and programs for life-long learning with career at our core. Our courses range from exploring general interests to up-skilling for career advancement and reskilling for career changes. We complete all background activities required to set up our products for students to purchase and experience several delivery options.

This Continuing Education instructional opportunity is scheduled to deliver classes in-person on campus.

WELD 011 – By Hammer and Hand Blacksmithing

Schedule:
July 11, 2023 to July 15, 2023

  • Tuesday July 11 – 6pm – 9pm
  • Thursday July 13 – 6pm – 9pm
  • Saturday July 15 – 12pm – 2pm
  • Location: In-Person – Point Trotter Campus

The Role

Present lessons, lectures, assignments, quizzes, exams, lab activities and lab demonstrations for learners if applicable given the course outline

Maintain records for the purposes of grading, assessing professionalism and tracking attendance in both theory and lab classes if given the course outline

Manage the classroom or lab to ensure a positive learning environment

Show personal interest in the learner and create a climate conducive to optimal learning

Provide on-going support, guidance and advice to students

Attend all SAIT training as required

Achievement of School initiatives and Objectives

Be an active and engaged member of the School

Adhere to all safety legislation, guidelines and safety standards as required

Maintain contact with relevant industry sectors

All other duties as required for the position

Qualifications

Extensive experience designing and making architectural metalwork

Experience executing restoration and commissioned projects

5+ years of industry experience and knowledge of shop safety, operating a gas forge, and proper tool selection and handling

2+ years of experience in training or teaching

Experience and fluency with Office 365 (MS Word, Outlook and PowerPoint)

Experience with videoconferencing technology (MS Teams, WebX, Skype or Zoom)

Fluent in English reading and vocabulary

Comfortable speaking to the public

Positive & respectful attitude

Ability to read, interpret and deliver specific curriculum

Excellent communication skills

Ability to organize and present written information

Desired:
Previous teaching experience

Training and knowledge of adult learning fundamentals

Formal training or education in facilitation or teaching

Formal training in online technologies

Experience with a Learning Management System (Brightspace or Moodle is an asset)
