SAIT’s School of Transportation is the Institution’s oldest school, we stay at the forefront of this ever-evolving field through our work with industry partners. We provide hands-on, practical education for the automotive, aviation, heavy equipment and rail industries, and emphasize exceptional classroom education and hands-on training in our advanced learning spaces.

The Opportunity*

We are currently accepting applications for motivated full-time Instructors to join our School of Manufacturing and Automation team during the winter and spring terms of 2021. This position is to teach in the Ironworker program on a part-time, on-call basis.

Reporting to the Academic Chair, the Instructor is accountable for promoting a positive and interactive learning environment with hands-on learning. In addition, you will work with students and faculty by attending recruitment initiatives and school events, and maintain strong industry relationships. You enjoy a challenge, possess strong technical skills and are an excellent communicator who works well in a collaborative team environment.

The Role

  • Instruct high level courses to mature learners
  • Prepare and present lectures and labs
  • Develop course outlines, profiles and curriculum
  • Participate in curriculum and program reviews
  • Prepare additional study and lab materials for learners
  • Evaluate student progress and achievement
  • Provide ongoing support, guidance and advice to learners
  • Maintain close contact with relevant industry sectors
  • Oversee lifting and hoisting operations in our yard
  • Perform related duties as assigned to meet the emerging needs of SAIT and its students

Qualifications

  • Must hold a Journeyperson and Red Seal Certificate as a Structural Ironworker, a Reinforcing Ironworker with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in industry, or an Alberta Journeyperson ticket as a Metal Building Systems Erector with 5 years experience
  • Prior teaching experience is an asset, formal teaching education is an asset
  • Intermediate level proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Aptitude for mentoring and coaching others
  • Comfortable with public speaking, and able to convey course subjects to diverse students and learning styles
  • Possess a positive, respectful attitude, and a high commitment to student success and collaboration
