General Summary

The Welder is responsible for following procedures for Aluminum and Stainless welding and other equipment operation and safety requirements as documented in the quality system. Is directly responsible for the quality of work performed.

Primary Functions & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for fitting up, pre-heat, and post-weld heat treat, and welding of parts and assemblies
  • Responsible for verification and completion of all operations and documentation to ensure that the product meets the customer’s requirements, industry regulations, and Company’s Quality and Weld Specifications
  • Responsible for the flow of work in the weld shop while maintaining the production schedule
  • Keeps the Managers informed of significant developments impacting the manufacturing/welding operations
  • Keeps the welding area clean, neat, and safe at all times
  • Weld in flat and vertical positions
  • Select and set up welding equipment
  • Check grooves, angles, or gap allowances, using micrometers, calipers, and precision measuring instruments
  • Estimate materials needed for production and manufacturing and maintain required stocks of materials
  • Prepare all material surfaces to be welded, ensuring that there is no loose or thick scale, slag, rust, moisture, grease, or other foreign matter
  • Work with other departments within the organization to achieve high efficiency of the company
  • Use a plasma and hand torch for cutting material
  • Must have excellent housekeeping skills and maintain a trash/clutter-free workstation
  • Other tasks as assigned or requested by the department manager/supervisor

Qualifications

  • Must be able to weld to AWS D1.1, B31.3, or other weld procedures required for projects
  • Must be able to weld GTAW and GMAW on aluminum and stainless; welds must pass X-ray, UT, or bend test
  • Must have experience with cutting and Gouging
  • Must be able to weld structural steel, fittings, and flanges
  • Must be able to read blueprints, welding specs, work orders, and any reports
  • A self-starter and able to complete tasks with a minimum of guidance
  • Must be detail-oriented, organized, and able to multi-task
  • Interpersonal and communications skills, both verbal and written
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English
  • Must have valid certification to operate forklift and overhead crane

Working Conditions

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and adverse outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Physical Demand

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly/frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and Infrequently/occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds using proper lifting techniques.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 – $26.00 per hour

Experience:

  • Welding: 4 years (Required)

License/Certification:

  • Forklift Certification (Preferred)
  • Overhead Crane Certification (Preferred)
