Apprentice Iron Worker

A&H Steel Vancouver is a partnership between A&H Steel Edmonton, Whitewater Concrete and Syber Concrete. A&H Steel Edmonton is a fully integrated, full-service rebar provider with 50 years of experience in the supply, fabrication, and installation of rebar in residential, commercial, and industrial sectors. Whitewater Concrete and Syber Concrete are both leaders in the form-work concrete industry, each having 25 years of experience operating residential and commercial projects across the Lower Mainland. POSITION SUMMARY:
The Apprentice Iron Worker is required to perform a variety of simple to moderately complex material handling including packing and tying reinforcing material, assisting with unloading trailers, and various other tasks. It is a requirement of this position to become a member of the Ironworkers Local 97 union.

Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
Follow direction of Journeyman

Ability to learn and apply new skills

Packing and tying rebar

Fabricating horses

Standing prefabricated structures

Building walls in place

Ensure saws receive proper maintenance, blades and have gas

Assist with setting up and taking down equipment in various work areas

Unload steel bundles from trailers

Assist rigger with unloading

Fill out daily FLRA

Understand Job Hazards Assessment’s and ensure they are applied in the field

Ensure good housekeeping in order to perform work safely and efficiently,

Help ensure work is completed as scheduled.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
All training is provided however, experience working with Rebar is considered an asset,

Current WHMIS, and Fall Arrest and is required, or ability to obtain certification (training can be provided)

An understanding of safe work practices and the knowledge to safely operate the tools of the trade,

The ability to work at heights,

Must be able to work independently and as part of a team,

Position will require exposure to heat, cold, wet and/or humid conditions, vibration and industrial manufacturing noise,

Must be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds, and to stand 8 hours,

Positon is physically demanding, and therefore physical fitness is a definite asset,

Drivers License recommended,

Must be available to work full-time (Monday – Friday), Saturday’s are optional.
