Overview

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

· Responsible for operation and maintenance of a hot mix asphalt plant. Manages asphalt plant production rates and aggregate supply, communicates with paving staff and outside contractors and prepares associated paperwork for record keeping.

· Operates silo load out and blending control computer systems to ensure accurate production rates and inventory quantities.

· Diagnose electrical and mechanical issues as they arise and coordinate or complete necessary repairs. Responsible for welding related repairs, both at the asphalt plant and mechanic shop.

· Repairs/maintenance to trucks, bulldozers, loaders and other fleet equipment on an as- needed basis.

· Prepares records and reports on work accomplished. Provides general assistance to other mechanics when required to diagnose troubles and make repairs.

· Occasional supervisory authority over employees performing work at an asphalt plant.

· Responds productively to change and performs all other related tasks as required and as directed.

· Capable of operating equipment to service and support the plant and production.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

· Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and standard practices associated with an asphalt plant and mechanic’s trades.

· Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions.

· General knowledge and safety practices for working around fuel, oil, generators.

· Knowledge of the operation and repair characteristics of a wide variety of fleet equipment.

· Knowledge of electrical systems.

· Ability to diagnose troubles at an asphalt plant and fleet equipment.

· Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.

· Ability to follow asphalt plant diagrams. Skill in the use of tools, machines and testing instruments of the trade.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:

· Ability to work in space restricted areas.

· Ability to traverse stairs.

· Ability to maneuver large and bulky items.

· Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs. frequently.

· Ability to bend, stoop, reach, stand and walk for continuous periods of up to four hours.

· Use of near vision. Use of both hands with dexterity.

· Ability to operate a motor vehicle for up to four hours continuously.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $30.00 per hour
