Job Description

Job Description & Responsibilities:
Looking for experienced candidates with 3 – 5 yrs of experience

Receives written/verbal instructions from supervisor: utilizes blueprints and/or Manufacturing Instruction Letter (MIL) information.

Prepares, positions, aligns, and secures/clamps/braces parts or floor pieces to floor plates, manipulator tables, work tables, etc., as needed.

Sets up, adjusts, and operates various CNC and manual machines according to repair/assembly needs, such as the control valve stroking machine, the radial drill press, the vertical boring mill, lamina drill, etc.

Sets up, operates, and monitors cutting torches and liquid nitrogen/dry ice during valve component removal and installation processes.

Sets up and operates tig, stick, and automatic welding equipment, as needed.

Monitors, regulates, and documents proper speed, heat, and other variations during weld operations.

Utilizes electronic charting, as needed.

Performs dust blast cleaning operations on contaminated and non-contaminated valves.

Cleans, paints/coats, wraps/packages, and loads parts for shipping.

Detects, diagnoses, and makes necessary corrections to operation malfunctions.

Inspects, decontaminates, cleans, and maintains hand tools and machinery equipment.

Performs crane operations with equipment set-ups and removals, as needed.

Performs preventative maintenance and may correct minor machine malfunctions.

Returns tooling, attachments, fixtures, etc., to proper location upon completion of operation.

Completes detailed log sheet, downtime records, and other information, as required by data collection system.

Abides by all company policies regarding safety/health rules and regulations.

Adapts to various situations and adjusts to shifting priorities.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Preparation & Training:
Job duties require a basic knowledge in the use of shop mathematics, together with the use of complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables, various types of precision measuring instruments and/or the training generally applicable in a particular or specialized occupation. Equivalent to 1 to 3 years applied trades training, such as use of blueprints, welding, CNC equipment, etc. Must also be able to read, write, understand, and follow verbal and/or written instructions. Must maintain current welder and forklift operator’s certifications.

Analytical Ability and Ingenuity:
Due to the technical nature of this position and the necessity to know various machining and welding operations, the use of judgment to plan, perform, and make decisions as to the sequence of setups, operations, and processes within the limitations of recognized or standard methods and procedures is required.

Equipment or Process:
Incorrect set ups and adjustments could result in moderate damage to welding heads and other specific parts or sections of equipment/machinery used. Normal maintenance required. Equipment used: dust blasting equipment, valve stroking and automatic welding machine, VBM’s and horizontal drill presses, various measuring and testing devices, and hand tools, etc.

Material or Product:
Product repairs shipped directly to customer from Valve area. Errors not detected during quality control inspections and/or shipping incorrect/late orders could result in substantial cost to the company in materials, loss time, costly freight charges, and ultimately, customer goodwill.

Safety of Others:
Care should be taken when operating the forklift or crane lifting equipment and when decompressing main spring. Safety features on the departmental equipment should preclude injury to others when operating that equipment. Inattention, thoughtlessness or careless operation of equipment or performance of duties may cause loss-time injuries to others.

Work of Others:
This position is responsible for 1 or 2 persons 50% or more of the time, as well as for shift changeovers.

Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a plant/production environment and is exposed to pressurized gases, cleaning fluids, noise, dirt, oil, and grease solvents, cleaning fluids, noise, dirt, oil, welding fumes, and grease solvents, and occasionally, chemicals, such as liquid nitrogen/dry ice, acetylene, and airborne radioactivity (see required clothing at bottom of page).

Mental Attention or Visual Demand:
Frequent mental and visual attention is necessary when performing transports, loading and unloading, and/or during adjustments, set-ups, and welding procedures. Must have normal or corrected vision, hearing, and the ability to smell in order to be aware of proper operation of machinery and to detect any potential safety hazards.

Physical Demand:
When performing the duties of this position, must be able to occasionally lift/carry gas bottles, valve parts, and tools, weighing approximately 10-50 pounds. Must also be able to push/pull the weld machine, lamina, and weld parts weighing approximately 10-500 pounds on cart. This position must be able to bend, stoop, stretch and reach, stand, walk, climb and balance at varying heights, etc. Must have good manual dexterity for use of welding equipment, CNC and manual equipment, mechanical controls/devices, grasping and handling tools, etc.

Hazards:
Care should be taken when lifting, pushing, and pulling in awkward positions in order to avoid strains. Extra caution should be used when using welding equipment, driving the forklift, overhead cranes, and other lifting devices in order to avoid accidents.
