Aluminum Welder

Reporting directly to the Production Manager. The Welder is responsible for the operation of welding projected aluminum panels, grinding and polishing, and ensuring completion while meeting quality standards. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

This opening is for our weekend shift which is Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 6am to 6:30pm.

Education

  • Degree or diploma in Stainless Steel welding, Structural welding and Aluminum welding is required.

Years of Experience

  • Minimum 3+ years of welding experience.

Working Conditions

  • Work may involve some exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and loud noises.
  • On site work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks that require knowledge of and adherence to basic safety procedures and precautions.
  • Work environment requires having construction safety footwear and hard hat for all site work and in certain other locations.

Junior Level

  • Have a high level of social interaction. Work with other technicians, programmers, and general labourers;
  • MIG and TIG welding experience;
  • Ability to use variety of tools and equipment;
  • Basic math skills and mechanical aptitude;
  • Ability to read blueprints and recognize welding symbols and specifications;
  • Knowledge of industry safety practices;
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds;
  • Must be able to write and communicate in English clearly and effectively;
  • Work in a team environment and demonstrate State’s core values; and
  • Knowledge of processes and practices of machining and familiarity with automated machinery required.

Job Specific Duties

  • Read and interpret blueprints and engineering plans to develop and design their welding projects;
  • Weld aluminum stainless and mild steel work (i.e. handrails, top cap for stainless and commercial brackets for mild steel;
  • Laying out, cutting, fitting, measuring and welding metals to create the desired shape or object;
  • Inspect and test welds and equipment for durability as well as meeting specified standards and equipment must be examined to determine if repairs or new equipment is needed;
  • Grinding and polishing welds;
  • Fabrication duties as required;
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment;
  • Operate brazing and soldering equipment;
  • Operate metal shaping machines such as brakes, shears, and other metal straightening and bending machines;
  • Repair fuel tanks, card-locks, and parts of metal products by welding on extra layers;
  • Keep up to date with changes in technology, compliance requirements, and repair techniques;
  • Prepare input for various management and log reports;
  • Cut, drill, sand, or plane materials for a snug fit;
  • Observe machines for signs of problems;
  • Position and install parts/accessories using power tools, hand tools, etc.;
  • Remove parts or completed products from conveyors and pack materials;
  • Ensure outputs meet production schedules efficiently, safety requirements and quality standards;
  • Maintain cleanliness of work station between tasks and at the end of the shift; and
  • Work independently and requires little supervision.
