Functionally reporting to the Design Engineering manager, the employee will be assigned as a Welding Engineer to support life extension projects.

How will you contribute to the team?

To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

Ensuring all work is performed in accordance with Project Safety requirements.

Perform design of weldments as related to tooling and field services, including weld materials, preparations, techniques, types, and sizes.

Provide support in training and guiding staff performing welding tasks (including weld repair and inspection) and in the development and refinement of welding parameters and techniques, including guidance through weld procedure qualification, as well as information about the operation of welding tools and the execution of detailed work instructions.

Interpreting drawings, codes, standards, and procedures, and summarizing for project personnel.

Supporting witnessing and recording the welding and testing of Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) and writing Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) as required.

Preparing Heat Treatment Instructions.

Reviewing fabrication drawings and determining joint configurations and weld symbols.

Preparing and conducting technical reviews of Requests for Quotation (RFQ), Requests for Proposals (RFP) and contract specification and drawings for welding requirements.

Attending team meetings and advising on design, construction, and fabrication issues.

Reviewing and implementing OPEX’s from project sites.

Ensure that the design is conducted in accordance with quality assurance requirements, in accordance with the applicable codes and that the necessary design verification activities are carried out.

Assist team lead in day-to-day engineering activities and coordination.

Assist in timely and quality project delivery.

What will you contribute?

Engineering degree from a university of recognized standing.

Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario, or eligible for same.

Welding Engineering degree or Metallurgical Engineering with a welding background from a university of recognized standing.

Minimum 2 years of manufacturing, fabrication, or related industry experience.

Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario, or eligible for same.

Strong working knowledge of ASME Codes Section I, Section II, Section III Division 1, Section VIII Division 1, Section IX, CWB W47.1 and CSA W59, CSA N285, N286 and B51, CSA Z662, API 6D, AWS D1.1/D1.6, ASME B31.1 and ASME B31.3.

Knowledge of CANDU systems in general and field experience at CANDU nuclear plants would be an asset.

Certification as a CWB Welding Engineer would be an asset.

Good working knowledge of VT/MT/PT/RT and UT NDE methods.

General knowledge of manufacturing processes.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to tactfully communicate with team members, internal customers, and suppliers.

Working knowledge with MS based computer applications.

Become a nuclear energy worker (NEW) and be qualified to work at site.

Work well in a team environment.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment requiring multitasking, problem solving, analytical and project management skills. Able to work prioritize and work tight deadlines.

Other aspects:
Obtaining Security Clearance is a mandatory requirement.
