Come grow with us…North American Stamping is expanding and looking to hire. We are looking for an Automation & Weld Technician to join our team! Hours of work are based on a rotating Days (7:00am – 3:30PM) and Afternoons (3:10pm – 11:40pm) schedule. Midnight shift runs 10:50pm – 7:20am.

Position summary:
Automation & Weld Technician is responsible for the oversite of all weld and automated assembly processes. Ensure that production equipment is maintained in a safe, production ready condition to assure efficient production of quality parts. Implement and execute predictive, proactive and innovative maintenance systems to avoid costly and unscheduled downtime.

The position duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensures that production and related equipment is ready to meet customer requirements.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Operations Group to ensure successful launch of new and take over work.
  • Complete work from project list as assigned by departmental management.
  • Maintain and repair robotic weld cells, assembly machines, as required
  • Complete preventative maintenance (PM) activities and maintain the PM schedule for production related equipment.
  • Ensure maintenance repair requests for automation and weld equipment are being addressed resolved and returned for proper record
  • Requisition supplies and maintain inventory of spare parts for automation and weld manufacturing processes.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical problems on production related equipment.
  • Use of Data and root cause investigative methods to identify and solve production issues and elimination of waste
  • Weld and automation fixture adjustment to maintain part quality and meet productivity requirements.
  • Identify and implement innovative ways of improving existing process and equipment performance and reliability
  • Follow-up projects and tasks after completion to ensure target results are effective and maintained
  • Effectively communicate project status and status of assigned tasks through to completion.
  • Compile effective and concise visual reports
  • Works with all departments to ensure required productivity and customer quality are achieved
  • Work with all employees to continuously improve quality and production.
  • Participate in team environment to support process improvement activities related to quality and performance
  • Suggest methods for improvements, i.e., Continuous Improvement Plan.
  • Work in a safe/productive manner with the ability to maintain quality of welds and parts to expected standards.
  • Work with outside tradesmen as required.
  • Available for overtime and flexible hours as required to support customer and production needs

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • Required – High School grade 12 or equivalent GED
  • Preferred – Associates degree or equivalent experience in electrical engineering / industrial electronics / robotics / electrical controls / automation / metallurgy

Experience:

  • Ability to demonstrate 5 years work related experience in robot programming
  • The knowledge of Mig and resistance welding principles
  • Production resistance and Mig weld controls programming
  • Automation equipment
  • Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
  • Industrial Millwright Mechanic
  • Industrial Electrician
  • Process design
  • Mechanical Engineering Technician or equivalent
  • PLC controls -diagnostics as related to process problem solving
  • Pneumatics & Hydraulics experience

Qualifications we are looking for include, but are not limited to:

  • Proven ability to organize self to manage multiple projects and tasks at the same time.
  • Strong knowledge of robotics’ and automation, mechanical systems
  • Strong knowledge of Production Mig and Resistance Welding methods
  • Trouble shooting and problem resolution in a fast-paced production environment
  • Problem identification and implementation of robust solutions
  • Strong electrical background to troubleshoot and repair weld and automation equipment
  • Strong mechanical ability to troubleshoot and repair weld and automation equipment
  • Technical skills necessary in the areas of industrial electricity, robotics and weld controls.
  • Technical skills necessary in mechanical maintenance in hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • Ability to read electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, schematic drawings
  • Working knowledge of welding, pneumatic and hydraulic systems
  • Working knowledge of the Toyota Quality Production System and manufacturing method
  • Weld control (Medar) knowledge and experience
  • Technical skills necessary and the ability to follow OSHA requirements
  • Ability to work independently and think of creative ways to approach problems.
  • Make decisions based on Data (measurable information) and make sound decisions
  • Ability to make adjustments to weld fixtures and automation tooling/fixtures to maintain part quality and meet productivity requirements.
  • Capable of working within tight tolerances
  • Personal Computer knowledge and experience
  • Safety systems as they relate to automated and weld equipment and guarding
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong understanding of elimination of waste
  • Effective time management skills
  • Strong understanding of metal stamped parts and weld, assembly processes.
