MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Six (6) months of experience in heavy equipment repair work.

Certificate of completion from a technical school for automotive/heavy equipment repair can substitute for the required experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
The incumbent must obtain a Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) within six (6) months of appointment.

Occasional to moderate travel required. Position may respond to emergencies, including natural disasters or other type incidents requiring travel, as needed.

The incumbent of this position is subject to pre-employment, post-accident, random and reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing requirements of the Federal Highway Administration Rule, Title 49, Part 382 CFR.

Successful completion of a drug test is a condition of employment in the position in accordance with Section 112.0455 F.S. “Drug Test” means any chemical, biological or physical instrumental analysis administered for the purpose of determining the presence or absence of a drug or its metabolites.

NOTES:
The anticipated hiring salary for this position is $31,200.00 annually.

JOB DUTIES:
The incumbent of this position is responsible for the repair and maintenance of all gasoline and diesel-powered equipment.

Incumbent must possess the technical knowledge to affect the repair of this equipment and the ability to resolve and troubleshoot problems with the aid of specialized equipment, technical publications and specifications.

Repair’s gasoline and diesel-powered equipment under the supervision of the Automotive Equipment Supervisor to include rebuilding of major components on heavy trucks, crawler tractors and other specialized forestry equipment. Use specialized tools and diagnostic equipment, welders, and cutting torches, etc., to repair the equipment.

Prepares computerized work orders and purchase orders on work performed. Keeps lists of parts costs for materials used in the repair. Accurately prepares work orders to completion. Purchases parts and supplies when directed to do so by his supervisor.

Maintains accurate records for the parts warehouse inventory. Assures the physical inventory and the EMIS (Equipment Management Information System) computer reports are accurate.

Performs other related work as required and responds to emergency situations. This position may work with or around Department of Corrections inmates, and therefore is subject to the conduct standards applicable to such work assignments and activity.
