CNC Route Operator and Fabricator

The CNC Operator and Fabricator will be responsible for fabricating metal, wood and plastic components by loading programs, setting up, and operating a CNC Router according to the required specifications while maintaining Beta-Calco’s quality and safety standards. The candidate will also be responsible for keeping records and maintaining CNC equipment and supplies to ensure efficient and smooth output that meets departmental productivity goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Loading programs, start, set-up and run the CNC router.
  • Loading programs on the CNC woodworking machines by entering instructions including, zero and reference points, setting tool registers, compensation and conditional switches.
  • Set up CNC wood-working machines by installing and adjusting tools and attachments.
  • Load/unload material for CNC operation.
  • Read blueprints or job orders for product specifications such as dimensions and tolerances; read tooling instructions such as fixtures, feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cut and determine sequence of operations.
  • Reads CNC codes and performs simple and complex set-ups with zero to minimum supervision.
  • Verify settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces, adhering to company standards. Inspect output by using standard jigs, fixtures, and gauges.
  • Perform other related duties such as drilling, cleaning and packing parts when required.
  • Determine methods and procedures on new assignments and provide guidance to other personnel when required.
  • Work on assignments that are complex in nature where considerable judgment and initiative are required in resolving problems and making recommendations.
  • Communicate with supervisor, designer to obtain work order/part drawings for CNC programming and cutting.
  • Maintain specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools while adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations at all times.
  • Document actions by completing production and quality logs.
  • Avoid waste of resources and materials by producing large quantities of particular components.
  • Maintain equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions, and calling for repairs when necessary.
  • Maintain a clean work area after operation or at the end of the day.
  • Provide support to Fabrication team when tight deadlines are to be met.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of two (2) years of related experience and/or training.
  • Experienced operator with knowledge of 3-Axis CNC Routers.
  • Must understand G-Code, M-Code and have the ability and understanding to perform MDI (Manual Data Input) functions.
  • Basic understanding and experience using the following programs: Enroute with pathfinder and AutoCAD, and Solid Works.
  • Must have understanding of cutter geometry and their uses while possessing good mathematical skills required to perform precise calculations.
  • Previous experience using an overhead crane.
  • Forklift Safety Training certificate an asset.
  • Have basic knowledge of production materials.
  • Excellent functional, technical and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent judgment and high attention to detail.
  • Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Effective verbal and listening communications skills.
  • Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule.
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety, and safe lifting and handling procedures.
  • Good hand-eye coordination.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for long hours at a time, and bend and squat to operate and maintain machines.
  • Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
