Summary: This is an advanced level position available at our TransTech Fabrication facility in McGregor, Texas.

The combination welder is responsible for welding the components of TransTech Energy, LLC products. Works with a limited supervision from a detailed specification that clearly spells out every requirement for the specific job. ASME Pressure Vessel specifications are extremely demanding because the pipe’s contents can be flammable, caustic or under high pressure. The job requires each weld be completed to the specified standards using appropriate equipment and materials, while following the employer’s recommended procedures. It’s also important to observe applicable safety precautions, to minimize the risk of injury to the welder or other workers nearby. Many welders supervise a team of helpers or assistants and might also be responsible for training an apprentice welder on the job site.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Reads and interprets P&ID, ISO including reading and interpreting GA’s, flowcharts, and spool drawings

Works with different types and sizes of materials

Safely operates iron worker, overhead cranes, rigging, pipe threading machine, welding machine, tube bending machine, and various pneumatic hand tools

Assembly of components with some fabrication of equipment needed for the job with minimal supervision

Works well with other departments on location of tie-in points for instrument and auxiliary pipe

Uses metal core MIG, flux core, sub-arc or stick welding process (must pass GMAW metal and flux core test)

Ability to pass applicable test(s) and applicable Non-Destructive Exam

May weld brackets and braces and use grinders. May position pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, guides and steps using measuring instruments and hand tools. May perform position welds on code materials

Quality of weld is sufficient to pass X-ray, Phased Array, and ultrasound test welds with minimum rework

Proficient in flame and plasma cutting torches and automated equipment

Must be able to operates basic cutting equipment

Promotes and supports safety, production, and positive attitude

Must be able to work with the team in developing improved work processes for the department

Basic Qualifications

Minimum three to six years related experience and/or training

Certification to weld on pipe or plate

Must pass a 3G welding test to be able to tack weld vessels together and for structural welding

Must pass a 6G welding test to weld on piping.

Preferred Education/Experience:
Welding school or on the job training

Must have experience operating other shop equipment (e.g., overhead crane, hand tools)

Must have knowledge of different types and sizes of structural materials

Must have knowledge of butt weld fittings

Knowledge of different types and sizes of pipe, structural and vessel materials

Physical Strain:
Standard requirements. Bending, squatting, climbing, stooping, twisting, and reaching will all be required occasionally in this position

Standing for long periods of time

Lifting 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds

May be required to work at heights of up to 25 feet

Must meet all OSHA regulations

Salary commensurate with experience
